how many injuries did we get?

hopefully they can take some confidence into next week. If we cant beat the Raiders next week after their flogging, we should give it away.

one positive - we are setting a club record that will take some beating...

Much better effort boys. Despite the loss I am impressed with the stats I am looking at on NRL.com. 32 from 42 completions is a massive improvement. Missed tackles at 25 is a little worrying as is the 13 handling errors, but one step at a time hey! :D
I think we will beat the Raiders next week for our first win.
Good job guys.

We played our best game of the season today, and that's including last week. We were solid in defence, for the most part, with two tries coming down Carmont's wing and one being an unlucky 'off the goal post' result.

What hurt most about our handling errors was that they came at crucial times. We knocked on several times in good field position (once off a scrum ten out), and ultimately our inability to complete cost us the game. Some of our last tackle options were pretty shonky as well.

We can only improve, and aside from Carmont, I'd be content to see the same side go around next round.

Oh, and I found it ironic that Hughes and Witt, constantly criticised for not being of first grade standard, were two of our better players.

Yeah CWB thats exactly what I was thinking. I thought Witt had an excellent, yes thats right, EXCELLENT game. This was bar prob one kick. If u didnt know any better u would hav thought he couldnt play

But onto the game, fair dinkum how close are we getting to a win. I dare say today they were closer to a win then last week, and thats saying something. They were about 1 and a half to 2 metres off having the chance to win. I am very confident about next week if we can play like we played today.

Btw Schifcofske looks like he will be out next week with a busted rib. Take into account the fact that Smith and Woolford wont be playing, u have the 3 players who cut us to pieces first time around not playing. :D

Thoughts on Today's Team

1: Mark Hughes
Safe as houses at the back, and whilst he offered nothing in attack, he was one of our better players

2: Trent Salkeld
Will probably be remembered more for his late drop than for his try-scoring efforts. Continues to fit right into the team, but is a little defensively weak.

3: Matt Gidley
Scored a cracker of a try at the start of the match, but was pretty quiet after that.

4: George Carmont
Was our weak point in defence, and I dread to think what would have happened if he'd had to mark Utai rather than El Masri.

5: Bradley Tighe
I didn't see him all game, and that includes in defence. Should be in the centres.

6: Kurt Gidley
Wasn't at his best, and maybe that's because he was trying to shoulder a lot of the burden. Defended well, but wasn't so good in attack.

7: Steve Witt
Certainly silenced a few critics with perhaps his best ever first grade game. Had some good kicks (some bad ones too) and looked slick with the ball in hand.

8: Craig Smith
Was outshone a little by Adam Woolnough from the bench, but reliable as usual.

9: Danny Buderus
If he's capable, Bedsy should be playing the full eighty minutes. We lost a lot of direction when he was off the park. A damn good game.

10: Daniel Tolar
Was quiet, but our midfield defence was good, so he can take a lot of credit for that.

11: Steve Simpson
One of our best, continually made good metres and tackled well.

12: Reegan Tanner
Good, workmanlike performance.

13: Kirk Reynoldson
Must be put in the back row from now on, after playing easily his finest game in the red and blue.

14: Matt Kennedy
Didn't really see him do much, but as with Tolar, he was involved in our better than average midfield defence.

15: Adam Woolnough
Solid return from injury. Should start alongside Smith next week

16: Luke Quigley
A waste of a bench spot. If Buderus can play the full game, I'd rather see another forward here.

17: Blake Mueller
Another workman, and he did his job well.

Hughesy was pretty solid at fullback and i'm glad he had a good game (yes I have been critical, that's why I'm glad)

I had a great time at the game. I was abit lost for words abit through the 2nd half when they let their guard down and made too many errors, but to the boys gredit they got back up in the game and nearly had it won.

I was very proud of the boys... and even the Doggis supporters in front of me weren't that bad. However they did ask us why we were clapping after the game as they lost, I said because were not dickheads like you  lame I know, but I thought it was good at the time

Hughes was safe as houses at the back, But dropped three crucial balls close to the dogs line, one of which was a gimme, and had just one of those stuck the score may have been different. Have to agree on Witt he had an excellent game considering his previous publicity, very good defensively to boot. A much improved effort, Steve Simpson was a shining light. I was a little puzzled as to why Danny was taken off, the game got away from us while he was off, and I don't think he was injured. Wooly made a good comeback as well.

Premier league showed that apart from one blemish Thaiday is not too bad in defence, he was a bit ball starved to show much in attack, I think he'll need a few runs in Premier league, when he did have the ball he looked like he could be a slpippery customer. David Seage again didn't play, no idea why.

Seage has done his back now. He doesn't think it's anything to worry about and will be getting scans on Tuesday.

My throat is sore from screaming. I could taste the blood!

I agree with the assessment of Hughes. Safe at the back but he should have taken at least one of the passes when we had an overlap late in the second half.

Salkeld should not be critisised for the last grasp drop. The defence seemed to have him pretty well covered.

I can't understand why they are taking Danny off though. As previously mentioned, it's really a waste to have a back-up hooker when we really need the extra utility forward on the bench.

They seem to dropp as soon as Danny is taken from the feild. I hope that's the last time Hagan takes him off.

My throat is really sore too Gene

Yeah, I know that now. The ground announcer said Matt Gidley, so until I read match reports, I couldn't be sure.

watching it on Fox, I can see what you mean by it was our best game.

first time this year I have seen the boys put some heart into it for the full 80.

a few tinkerings and we might actually win a few by the end of the year...!

wonder what odds we will be given for next week..?

is Hinton possibly ready for FG?

The newbies Tanner & Tolar were great.

Simmo only started to go well at the end of the game but those two went v. well.

I'm not sure mac, I hav a huge rap on him, boy can he play. But I dont know if he is just ready just yet. He has a lot of potential, maybe by the seasons end he might hav a few FG performances under his belt.

All in all, I thought today was the BEST performance for the year, LEAST amount of points scored against for the year as well  But I really like our chances next week and if they play like they did today, for the rest of the year with hopefully all players on deck by seasons end, although the start has been terrible, they WONT win the spoon. Who knows, they may even give the top 8 a shake. [-o< [-o<
