I see Makahesi Makatoa’s brother Phillip is named for the Dogs.
Excellent observation skills. Are you sure it's not his cousin though.

Same D.O.B so would assume so. He and Hollis were the next big thing.Another interesting observation and point of clarification… #16 for the Bulldogs NSW Cup team, is that the same Sam Hughes as the one in our juniors system, that was highly rated but then mysteriously disappeared from our club?

Along with Kafusi. There are always more overhyped juniors then actual good players bought thru. If look at most our good ones
Brown,Penisini, Mahoney they all become regular NRL players by age 20. Why I am skeptical about kids who are 21 and not yet regulars. I am not saying they won't develop into quality NRL players, they may.
But in general terms the good kids are playing NRL already and to good to drop.
Why guys like Hands,Morreti,El Zakhem,Rodwell,Greig etc I don't imagine ever being anything special. Maybe bench options or just average players. But then again you always do get the odd late bloomer. Capewell,Sorenson are two recent ones.
For middle forwards it’s generally later than 20.Along with Kafusi. There are always more overhyped juniors then actual good players bought thru. If look at most our good ones

He played 25 games before his 20th birthday. Definitely not a late bloomer.Isaiah Papali'i

What language is this? Rabbit language?Unsure. Are youn ure?
Interestingly Panthers the “leading” development club with the “best” juniors doesnt support this ….Along with Kafusi. There are always more overhyped juniors then actual good players bought thru. If look at most our good ones

10 players from the Panthers GF side didn’t debut until at least they were 21. And the average age of these players when they finally played 20 plus games in a year (probably the point where they are regular NRL players) is nearly 24 (23.875):
To’o 21 (age on debut) 16 games (in debut season, 23 when play 20 plus games
Momirovski 22, 2 games, never played 20 plus games
Luai, 21, 4 games, 23 before playing 20 plus games
Leota, 21, 4 games, 23 when playing 20 plus games
Api, 22, 14 games, 25 when playing 20 plus games
Martin, 22, 16 games, 23 when playing 20 plus games
Capwell, 23, 4 games, 26 when playing 20 plus games
Kikau, 22, 9 games, 23 when playing 20 plus games
May, 21, 9 games, 25 when playing 20 plus games
Sorensen, 21, 3 games, never played 20 plus games
this list includes 5 origin players and

Actually, merkin, I just had a look at the 34 blokes who played Origin the other night and almost half of them (47%) hadn’t played a single NRL game before the age of 20. Only five of them had played a full season (20+ games) by their 20th birthday, plus Nanai who has played 16 games and turns 20 next year. That’s only 6 from 34 (18%) who were anything like ‘regular NRL players by age 20’.Along with Kafusi. There are always more overhyped juniors then actual good players bought thru. Or maybe it's a bit more difficult to get into the Panthers side of late.Interesting stat. Seems different with our club but doesn't it? All the good kids are in top grade early. Maybe Penrith are smart. Hide them a little so when do debut they are getting excellent value from them for a few years rather then learning their game in the NRL like D.Brown and being paid a bomb for future potential.
