Both teams trade sets after the opening try. Takai Moeakiola is on as the subs are injected into the game.

Fritz secures the ball for Wenty 15m short of halfway as they look to get on top of the Dogs in the arm wrestle.

A penalty takes them downfield. Pewhairangi nearly breaks through down the left and Wenty then go close to scoring via #21.

Nothing much else happens up until the last tackle where Kelly once again bombs for Fritz. Fritz leaps up and gets his hand up for a bat back but takes some heavy contact in the air and bats the ball forwards.

The Dogs march down field from the 20m restart. Wenty do compete defensively in the ruck but the seven tackle set means the Dogs are in position for an attacking play later in the set. A forward pass though undoes the momentum and Wenty come away with the ball.

Not to be outdone the Magpies are pulled up for a forward pass of their own deep in the tackle count...

Canterbury will pack for a scrum feed just short of halfway.

Wenty are caught sliding down their left edge but Rawalui does well to make the tackle on his inside shoulder.

The Dogs pick up another penalty near the goal line for a fresh set. The weight of possession proves to be too much and off the back of some second phase play their #7 is able to dive over between defenders to the left of the uprights.

The conversion is successful.

Some fortune for Wenty now. The Dogs allow the kick off to bounce and it immediately breaks to the sideline where it finds touch.

80 seconds on the clock for the home team to score.

Hunt uses Rawalui on the fist tackle. Pewhairangi is in the slot for the next play but is caught by the rushing defence. Paul Pauli comes teaming onto the ball, running the angle to the shortside. He powers through a few defenders and comes close to scoring but is adjudged to be held up.

Wenty lose their way afterwards with Mackenzie scooping up a loose pass before he is forced into touch.

Shocking twist! Pauli Pauli has ditched the silver suit for the black and white of the Magpies.

He is lining up on the left edge for Wenty.

The Magpies will be receiving the kick off in the first half.
Pauli Pauli playing two games this weekend? Interesting...

The Dogs get through their first set in the second half with out any trouble.

Wenty go on the attack as Kelly finds Pauli with a great shortball. Pauli looks for support but is cut down as the defence pushes through on his inside.

Canterbury defuse the bomb once more with a perfectly timed leap and take.

Wenty raise the intensity in defence and limit the Dogs to a ~15m gain this set but are pinged for an offside defender on the last tackle after the ball was charged down.

Great work from the home team in defence. They not only repel the Dogs but Pewhairangi makes a 20m gain after picking up a friendly deflection from the Canterbury grubber.

Ma'afu creates a half break down the left as Wenty break into the Dogs' half. They then spin it to the right where Butler-Fleming is pulled down a metre short of the line. Wenty look to run it on the last by turning the ball back to Pauli on the short side (who is now playing on the right) but he is stopped short.

Poor end to the set but an error from the Dogs gives Wenty another chance. After dragging the Dogs out wide down their right Wenty build to the right edge shift. Kelly links up with Hunt who then finds Butler-Fleming. He holds the ball up before hitting Fritz who dives over in the corner.

The conversion is successful.

The Doggies are all offside from the kick off after their kicking stopped and propped.

The Dogs then raise the niggle factor as Pauli has his legged jerked all which way where it belongs. Wenty eventually get the penalty but fail to find touch. Huzzah for coach killers!

Good set from the Dogs. They end it with a stab-chip kick that falls between Hunt and Mackenzie. The pressure mounts on Wenty on the back of that kick and they fold, making an error working the ball out of their half. Things are further compounded by a penalty BUT an error in the play the ball takes the foot of the throat of the Magpies.

Good run from Pauli! Makes plenty of metres and probably should have gotten a penalty for his efforts. Pauli is involved two tackles later, feeding Butler-Fleming a lovely short ball to create an overlap. Alas, Butler-Fleming's pass to Fritz is metres forwards and is correctly pulled up by the officials.

The Dogs pick up a fortuitous (but correct) six again call as Pauli hand touched the ball while completing a tackle. Wenty are pretty ordinary following that up and the Dogs crash over via a pass from dummy half.

Poor is the word that comes to mind there.

The conversion is successful.

Pauli has a pretty poor spot at play maker there, firing an uninspiring pass to Fritz down the right. He redeems himself two tackles later though with a terrific kick chase that forces an error from the Canterbury custodian near the goal line!

Alvaro is back on and nearly pushes through after throwing a dummy to his left. Wenty come back to the right and run it on the last. Fritz is covered on the sideline but whips an amazing pass behind his back to Hunt who then bombs it to the left. The Dogs lose the ball in the contest and Wenty get the repeat set!

Simple stuff for Wenty get the points. Takai Moeakiola powers onto the short ball from dummy half and crashes over. Nothing fancy but it gets Wenty on the board.

The conversion is successful.

Good set after points for Wenty. Maliota was integral there with two strong carries while Kelly iced the set with a pin point kick into the Dogs' red zone.

Field position is firmly in Wenty's favour now as Hunt takes the Canterbury kick back to 10m short of halfway. Wenty focus on rucking it out early on before they earn a repeat set from a stray Canterbury hand on a left-edge movement.

Another bustling charge to Maliota from the scrum win. He draws a penalty for his efforts.

Wenty come down the right from the restart where Butler-Fleming goes close. Wenty continue to work the ball down the right edge and go close again before spinning it from sideline to sideline. Rawalui does really well to get the ball to Mackenzie who in turn does well by beating a few defenders as he cuts back in field. He offloads to Pewhairangi who looks to have scored but he has lost it over the line!

The Dogs pick up a penalty that takes them close to halfway.

Strong set of defence from Wenty as they lift to half the momentum shift. The Dogs don't come close to the try line and their kick is easily shepherded over the deal ball line.

Play breaks down later in the set as the ref insists on making Pauli replay a play the ball several times. Kelly is collected on the last and threads in a low kick that nets the home team a repeat set.

Line drop out.

Takai motors in from the drop out. Inspiring stuff but he is well met but the defensive line. Hunt injects himself down the right edge and very nearly steps his way to the try line. He is just pulled up but has sucked in a number of defenders. Wenty move the ball to the left edge where they crack the Dogs open from a highly dubious offload. Takai Moeakiola has parked himself out wide and is the happy recipient of the offload as he thunders over for a double!

The conversion is successful.

O'Malley makes a terrific run up the middle but can only find Canterbury defenders as he pushes the offload!

The Dogs don't have much on as the try to roll it to the goal line and out of no where there is a field goal attempt that somehow splits Gorman and another defender.

The ref raises his arm and the Dogs go ahead again.

The Dogs clean up the short kick off attempt but lose the ball late in the set as they roll the dice bizarrely on some razzle dazzle play.

Wenty get the ball back but in turn lose the pill just as they cross halfway. Kelly fired the flat ball to Howard (?) who never looked like securing the pill - even though there was nothing wrong with the pass.

2min on the clock.

A Wenty get the break! The ref has found a forward pass (offload really). Looked to be the correct call from my seat and there weren't any complaints on the field.

Wenty pack in for a scrum 18m out from their line, 90 sec on the clock.

Rawalui takes the first charge and is followed by Moeakiola, who earns a penalty for a shoulder charge!

Gorman makes a nice run form the restart. Alvaro is up next, fighting for metres. A right edge shift comes undone with the last pass but Fritz cleans it up and heads back in field. Kelly wants the ball back down the right with seconds on the clock and finds space! He has found the match winner as Fritz or Hunt crash over!

Wenty have stolen it at the death!

The conversion is unsuccessful.
