Have to agree Matto had the jump on Sam and Doorey for a middle bench spot in round 1 but pulled out through injury. Those 2 didn't deserve to be dropped.

I'd say more likely he was dropped due to the reason he pulled out which I reckon JR deemed as soft.

anyhow if Matto was "soft"...surely after 12 weeks of pre season training Ryles wouId have worked that out....yet he picked him for round 1.......

Didn't Ryles also encourage Matto to take up his PO, telling him there was a place for him here?

Doubt there is much to the Matterson dropping except a reward for Tuivaiti.

Appears Ryles bench is hooker, edge option, 2 middles.

Guymer was our edge bench player last week and Kautoga has taken that spot.

Matterson is probably seen as a middle and no longer an edge option (unless there is a few injuries). He is named at prop in NSW cup, while Lane was name at edge after being injured.

So really it was between Matterson and Tuivaiti (he came in for him last week) for a bench spot. Tuivaiti did enough to stay in the side.

Agree with your analysis - but still, that last sentence is crazy, if that alone is the thinking for selection.

There's no way a Tuivaiti doing enough last week is justification for selection about a fit (and correct attitude) Matterson. The fact Matterson wasn't even given a #19-#22 jersey for possible consideration to come in (if someone gets a twinge during training etc) appears to speak volumes - about either his "injury" or his "attitude" (or maybe both).

I don't get why any fan would call a NRL player that especially one from their own team.

Yeah fans may not like a particular player, but that's pretty poor form calling a player that. No player playing NRL is.....

Anyhow....he has had some pretty serious concussions/injuries over the years, it's pretty easy to judge a player behind a keyboard without actually copping those injuries....it's a brutal sport..

He's had some injury issues, especially with concussion.
With what we know about head injuries these days I don't blame him for being cautious.

I still don't like his choice to take a suspension over a fine though. That was pretty shit. The NRL should have let him reverse his decision like he wanted to.

Sure he is cautious. But he is costing us around 650k a season. If he can't go 100% he is useless to us

He was hurt playing NRL. He should be paid.
I think NRL need to look into if medically retired due to concussion it not counting against cap of club pays it out.
