Dude, I was trying to understand the chance he took so we can work out how we can offer the same or similar chances to our future stars and not lose them to Penrith and others.

Culture. Look at our high profile players.
Our captain the King was a poor leader. Twice playing out his contract infront of media.
Moses wasnt a whole lot better and did similar.
Matterson and Lane certainly where not the leaders we wanted.
D.Brown was a a bit of a clown and not someone for kids to look up to and follow.

Those points make sense but Blaize's brother extended with us, so it has to be something other than the club's culture you would think.

I just think it’s the Cleary factor

Why wouldn’t you want to pair with the best player in the game

The Cleary factor plus he had a clear path at the riff to play 5/8 if he stayed with us he may play fullback as Brown was our 5/8..

Plus if he did play fullback and Gutho was still here every time he made a mistake the fans and media would have been screaming to put Gutho back to full back... So the move to the riff came with alot less pressure and expectations. Smart move by Blaize tbh.. But now Brown is f**king off learn 5/8 at the riff then come home!

Ryles maybe had enough time to convince him? I don't know. I'm going off what his Dad publicly said and what Blaize has also mentioned.
Unfortunately other clubs will easily be able to trash talk us

PARRA- They are unstable and haven't won anything in 40yrs. Do you really think you are going to win anything with them bar a spoon. We will be finals most years and surrounds you with better players so you'll look better and your next contract will be even better not worse.
Followed by Lots of laughing and Parra jokes. 40yrs hey.

This is what would be happening and why it's difficult to recruit now we are so poor

You watch a lot of juniors.
Does Lorenzo look a superior talent?

Time line from last year Hindy

Ryles signed with us on July 8th

Blaize told the club he was leaving July 31

23 days isnt a lot and i dare say Blaize already had one foot out the door when Ryles had to pitch to him to stay.

Interestingly we had Iongi signed on August 17.

So 17 days after Blaize said he was leaving Ryles had snapped up Iongi.

I dont think Blaize was confident enough in the direction we were heading.

The fact he got shuffled around a lot last year in different positions didn't help our cause.

By the time Ryles jump on board it was probably too late to convince him to stay.

I think the fact Ryles was so quick to move & identify Iongi within a week or two as a replacement was a shrewd move from the coach.

And giving a player a PO in there favour when they hadn't even played a FG game is actually not even the dumbest contract we have handed out in the past 3 or 4 years which is saying something.

Considering the stupidity of it.

Yet we still have the muppet who signed off on it still in charge as our HOF.

How anyone has any faith in those same people moving forward have too much faith in incompetence.
How did the PO hurt us? In the end it was a non factor. Player options only hurt you when the player activates it while injured or badly out of form. Like if Brown had activated his this year.

We were in our third straight year in the finals and three of our best players signed with the Tigers, Dogs and Warriors. They only care about money, which is why Talagi went to Penrith and Sanders to the Raiders. It's why Luai and Katoa and all the rest of them left Penrith.

No different to any other off contract player. We couldn't use Galvin's money until he made a decision. Then we couldn't use Da Silva's money until he made a decision.
