NSW Cup Notes:
Although it was 52-16 in the end, the win wasnt quite as dominant as it seemed.. it was tit for tat early before some things came off for us, 1on1 brilliance from Tamale etc.. and the Magpies errors omg.. just unforced errors again and again.. coupla lucky calls for us also.. dont get me wrong we were by far the better side against the team coming last... who probably have quite a few playing 1sts atm.

Usual performance from everyone, but some individual comments:

o Ben Johnson had some rly good moments in defence and attack.. seems to be growing into his reserve grade position.. maybe a T&T next year dunno.. depends if were keeping Max.. but i think Johnson can play both sides..

o LKT chiming into the line nicely, seems to get the decision right most of the time.. and a good 1on1 tackle... my only criticism is hes kinda chunky, so he doesnt have the acceleration to make the most of his fancy footwork.. if he was faster he would destroy teams.. but next year probably hes the 6 where he doesnt need quite as much and lets see where it goes.. one of his best games though, the position forces his involvement.

o Nu Brown was pretty good at 6 again.. left foot kicker... and goalkicks were much more reliable than Glover which made a huge difference... like he was a big part of this win today.. hes probably a better 6 'today' than LKT is for us, but hes also probably gone end of season.

o RyanC was the lock and made huge PCM, defies his frame, but on report for a bit if a dumb shoulder charge tackle in the 2nd half... will hurt the team if hes suspended.

o Tonga came on with 30 to go, coupla good runs but the ball keeps getting dropped by both teams and no momentum... I think Ive seen 1 run with a head of steam in 3 games... he is slow to get going so the timing is rly important of that run and pass.

o SFinau was solid.. of the 4 tries.. 1 was an intercept, 1 was a weird one where Tamale ran the length and wanted to improve the position so he stopped before scoring and had to pass it to him, just did his job.. heavily strapped on that leg, but seemed to come thru ok.. almost got chased down by Naden on his intercept but got it done.. hes just quick enough imo for a winger.. and obviously a lot more than we have currently in 1st grade.

Great update Rev, thanks

I actually thought Fifita played well today. A number of strong runs and an offload that resulted in a try. Also no errors from him that I remember. That was the best game I have seen him play for us.
Yeah he did, I think 2 carries in each half.. the carries are top shelf stuff.. like world beating blokes left behind... it was after that when he was defending the line.. i was praying they wouldnt run at him.. but good call no errors today and had more impact than Tonga today.

Had bigger mins too today, 35. Needs more involvement as two carries per half dont cut it.
I probably missed some, but 2 rly big ones I noticed per half.. I notice that every week though.. when he first comes on and fresh hes an animal.. not in the way Alec Tui is an animal.. but whatever he does when fresh its effective.

Im not sure what they will do next year, we would rly miss Alec Tui if he goes and Coric has been strong in the back half.. we cant just run impact props.. tbf I think Tonga has a much bigger motor than is being used currently, so perhaps by 2025 hes ready to start.

Tamale has a great step off each foot and is an extremely strong runner as shown by all his tackle breaks. I know there is a question mark over his defence but surely with our lack of attacking options in the NRL he was worth retaining?
He has gotten better as the year has progressed.. I havent seen anywhere the number of dumb things, ball being stripped etc.. definitely bummed to see him go.. but whats done is done.. tbf though.. for him to stay someone else had to go from our Top30.. he was obviously at the point that he wanted a 1st grade position.

Think you are on the money @hewi about Fifita.
Sounds like the rumours that he wants out to return to Sydney are on the money.
Surely there are other big young props out there looking for an opportunity??
Also cannot see Tuitavake being with us in 2025 as well.
That would make sense re: Fifita, although today was one of his best games off the bench, I dont know think we would stand in his way if someone wants him.. perhaps they wont announce it till end of year when 'whatever team it is' frees up room.

If he goes it means we can probably buy the 2nd first grade prop Flanno is after (or someone else).

Tuitavake is probably our best cup prop (couchmans aside), but we just cant keep so many fringe props in our Top30, so either he stays as a nsw cup prop (which seems unlikely) or perhaps another club will give him a go.. depends if he also wants to go live back in Manly I guess.

I read Sione is a bit of a intercept specialist. Tells me he chooses carefully when to leave his wing to pluck the ball from the opposition and is not left grasping at thin air as his opposite heads to the line, like what happens with Rava and Feagai. Saw CT caught napping couple times last week too.

As usual, thanks Rev.
I’ve only seen Johnson play a few times but he impresses me.
I hadn’t seen him on the team list lately so wasn’t sure he was still around.
