It’s so frustrating how flaky some Saints fans can be. Every drop of the ball, everytime a player catches a ball and gets smashed they wonder why he didn’t break the tackle and run 100 metres to score. Every little thing is so amplified. Ravalawa was rubbish in his first year. He was slow, a terrible defender and looked like Tarzan ran like Jane, now a few years in he’s one of our best. Dufty only just started passing the ball last year and was in and out of the team for years. Some players like Reece Walsh, Ponga etc are good straight away but we don’t need Ramsey and co to be like them. Think more Gutho, Edwards etc. We won the GF in 2010 with very few out and out superstars, we need to build a good solid team that play cohesively that allow each other’s strengths to shine.

Yep, mediocre culture right down to the fans.

"We don't need Walsh or Ponga...we need to be patient fans." You use Dufty as an example and now he is being punted from our club. Patience really paid off there, doesn't make sense.

Well I won't apologise for wanting to have the best players at our club. I recognise Griffin will need time but to live up to my standards he needs to get his team in order so we can not throw away games of football, I am sure he will agree with that. Then he needs to recruit/develop some talent in the next couple seasons.

So, you must have been at the game today. Your analysis on how the young guys went would be appreciated.

Maybe someone has video of the game they could share with those who don't have the opportunity to go to matches in Sydney. Just some highlights of JDB would be nice.

I’m not saying I don’t want these players I’m saying they don’t grow on trees and they just aren’t coming here in our current state. What I’m saying is that not every player comes in and kills it straight away. People are already writing players off after a few games. Players like Ramsey for example are expected to be winning games for us already 2nd game as fullback basically being pinned in our half all game. Sullivan was back in reggies this week but it’s his second game of the season. We are severely depleted squad wide and until we get a few players back we are just not going to win many games, nor will the young players look any good. Bellamy wouldn’t do much better, probably wouldn’t keep Dufty and wouldn’t be able to completely reshape a squad he didn’t build in a short period either. Basically long story short, we can whinge all we want it’s not going to make players want to come here. Patience and getting behind the players is the only option we actually have.

Jack de Belin has made his return to rugby league, 968 days since his last game.

De Belin ran out for the Dragons against Magpies in the NSW Cup at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday. They lost 26-18.

It was his first game since 2018, having been stood down by the NRL after being charged with rape.

On Friday the sexual assault charges against him were dropped by the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions.

He started from the bench in the No.19 jersey. He was supported in the crowd by his partner and friends, as well as a number of other Dragons.

It is the first step in his journey back to the NRL.

Security was boosted for the clash, and guards were on high alert for offensive signs.

De Belin is set to return to training with the Dragons’ first-grade squad next week, though it is unclear when he will line up in the NRL. However, reports from the St George Illawarra camp state that he is in elite physical shape. De Belin’s new contract with the Dragons runs until the end of the 2023 season.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo stood by the policy that saw De Belin scrubbed out of playing for almost three years.

“We make no apology for taking the hardest stance in Australian sport where our players are charged with serious criminal offences. We cannot remain indifferent to such charges, particularly those against women,’’ he said in a Thursday statement.

“The “No-Fault Stand Down” rule upholds the values of the game, protects the game’s commercial relationships and provides safeguards for the very small number of players who find themselves the subject of serious criminal charges.

“This is an example of our processes working. Jack continued to be employed by the club and was able to extend his contract with the Dragons during the process.

“The rule worked as it should.”

Second half comeback keeps Magpies streak alive

Western Suburbs Magpies have produced a strong second half comeback to down the St. George-Illawarra Dragons 26-18 in their Round 12 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup clash today at Lidcombe Oval — extending their winning run to nine in a row.

Trailing 18-6 at the break following a dominant opening half from the visitors, Ben Gardiner's side overcame the loss of fullback Zac Cini to finish the better of the two sides — erasing their half-time deficit quickly after the break before holding their nerve in windy and blustery conditions at Lidcombe Oval for an eight-point win.

The result sees Western Suburbs move within two points of the ladder-leading Penrith Panthers, whom they face next Saturday at Lidcombe Oval.

Boosted by the inclusion of representative forward Jack De Belin for his first game in several seasons, St. George-Illawarra began the stronger of the two sides and quickly amassed a 10-point lead with early tries to Tyrell Sloan and James Schiller.

With Cini forced off with an ankle injury, Wests found themselves further behind when stand-in fullback Kiah Cooper was undone with a kick that allowed Adam Clune to cross and extend the Dragons' lead to 16 points.

Austin Dias' determination got the hosts on the scoreboard just before the break before a penalty goal after the half-time siren allowed Siti Moceidreke to push his side's advantage to 12 points at the main break.

Spurred on by a healthy crowd and a stiff breeze in their favour at the iconic suburban ground, Wests roared out of the blocks in the second half and soon erased the Dragons' advantage with some clinical attacking play down the right.

Billy Walters and Reece Hoffman combined to send Allan Fitzgibbon over untouched in the first set after half-time, before that duo caused havoc moments later to put Jock Madden over next to the posts — reducing the score to just 18-16.

A dominant run from Stefano Utoikamanu put the Magpies back on the attack shortly after with good hands from Hoffman sending Fitzgibbon over with an acrobatic effort to give the home side their first lead of the day. Jock Madden was unable to land the sideline effort in windy conditions, however, leaving the score at 20-18.

Not to be outdone by Fitzgibbon's spectacular effort, Tom Freebairn scored arguably the try of the day in the 54th minute as he collected a short pass from Madden on halfway — fending off four defenders before dummying his way past the Dragons fullback to score a spectacular individual try.

With four tries in 13 minutes, Gardiner's men had blown the game wide open — now leading 26-18 and full of momentum as they dominated the proceedings.

There threatened to be one late twist in the tale when repeat ruck infringements saw Walters sin-binned with nine minutes remaining — forcing Wests to defend their eight-point lead with just 12 men for the final period of the game — but the Magpies showed enough resolve to hold on for their ninth straight win.

Wests will look to make it an incredible ten wins in a row next Saturday when they face the ladder-leading Panthers at Lidcombe Oval, with a win taking the Magpies top of the table for the first time this season.

Western Suburbs Magpies 26 (Fitzgibbon 2, Dias, Madden, Freebairn tries; Madden 3/5 goals) def. St. George-Illawarra Dragons 18 (Sloan, Schiller, Clune tries; Moceidreke 3/4 goals) at Lidcombe Oval

Two loses today but more concerning were two serious injuries.
The NSW cup came was stopped for a serious head injury to Tony Pellow he was taken by ambulance with a suspected fractured skull.
The Flegg game was end early with another serious injury to Zach Herring.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance with what I believe is a compound ankle fracture.

Hopefully young Pellows responds well to the medical treatment and makes a full recovery as does Herring .

I had a compound wrist fracture 37 years ago and despite 4 operations it still stuffed.
Scored a try the opposition winger dropped his knee on my wrist whilst my hand was still on the ball.
Both bones snapped and out the skin.
I hope both are ok.
