Laurie's shot at Teflon

Laurie is a myth. He charges out of the line and misses tackles. He plays 10 minutes and is gone. Our defence improved once we got him out of the side. He had 10 good minutes against Parra, and 10 good minutes against Canberra, and the rest of the year he was attrocious. Take all the shots and Sheens you want, but not using this guy, and getting rid of him was a good move, I am sure of it.

Chris Lawrence was once an ordinary player particulary in defence, but with training , coaching, and experience he is now one of our best. I dont think Laurie was given those same luxuries. I have no doubt he will improve massivly this year with the panfa's.

Immaterial of the player (and I admit I am one of those that did not weep any tears with Laurie departing), I think the article exposes a Sheens flaw- he does seem to be the type that picks a player (a non 'star performer'), then just seems to grind them down with negative comments and they never then seem able to do something good enough for him.

I dont know whether it is meant as an object lesson to the others, the for the player in question their only option is to look elsewhere. I say again- Matthew Head and Shannon Gallant are 2 other classic examples.

Laurie himself was replaced relatively easily but I do hope to see him develop his potential somewhere else. I just hope he doesnt play well against WT :)

You can bet your arse even if he only plays one good game all year it will be against us.

Yep- I suspect there will be a fair bit of payback. Having said that, I love a match that has a good forward tussle and matchups between players.

Lawrence was rubbish - yes. But he was always going to be good because of his attitude. The exact opposite applies here.

No one really knows what his true attitude was, nor do we know wether he was nutured enough to ensure he always had and retained a good attitude. Maybe as he said" negative treatment" may have produced a negative effort and result, anyway regardless the guy now has the chance to show everyone if he really is good enough and he cannot use the Sheens exuse this time.

A big tough 115kg grown man has to be nurtured? Just turn up to training, train hard and you'll have a great chance to turn your life into something. If you cant do that for yourself then bugger off because other people cant do it for you.
He'll have one good game this year.

I pray you are not in management - we do not live in utopia.

No I live in the real world wher things arnt handed to you on a silver platter. Surely its not too much to expect someone to work hard.

In a perfect world I agree with you. A good manager will know how to get their people to perform at their best however. Different people are motivated by different things.

You keep on talking about perfect worlds but I'm just talking about reality.
Its not that hard.

Youve been given a great oportunity to make a career in rugby league. If you cant motivate yourself to work hard to achieve it then you will be shown the door. There's hundreds of players lined up behind you.

Getting your players to perform at their best is one thing, getting your players to turn up to training and work hard is not the coaches job however. Any player who has done nothing more than shown potential but has a crap/lazy attitude will be shown the door by any coach in the game. Elliott will do the same if Laurie doesnt improve things.

Agreed, there is no button you can press that will turn you into a star. The only way you can become a star is hard work, something Laurie did not want to do.

You and Gallagher are both talking about things neither of you know anything about . No one here knows anything about how he trained or how hard he tried at the westsigers so dont make BS asumptions. I will tell u one FACT he tried 10000 times more on the field than Lazy Lui who looks like getting rewarded for being sh*t while others get shafted !!.

The thing is Gal i dont think there are another 100 Lauries waiting, he is a 1 in a friggin longtime player to be gifted with his talents and attributes and if it takes a bit more patients well so be it. He was costing us bugger all in dollars compared to others we have just bought that come with huge baggage and risk.

100% agree. He has the potential to be great, with the right motivation and team.

Is that the same way you nothing about Sheens' training/coaching techniques but mercilessly critisis him?
Is it the same way that you no nothng about Lui but call him lazy?

I can state categorically that Laurie has missed 4 training sessions with the Panthers and has not been reprimanded even though no notice or reason was given.

And I can categorically say that you are utterly and entirely full of sh!t.

If you are going to slander someone...get your sh!t together.

He has missed four training sessions, you are right there...but what you are not right about is regarding no notice or reason.

One....was to see a specialist regarding his toe injury, the other three were to deal with a personal issues which were conveyed to Elliot on a timely basis.

Other than that...he has been training the house down and really looking very good from what i've seen of him.

So for you to turn around and say that, proves that in fact you are a gronk.

10000 times 0 is still 0. For the record, I don't rate Lui one bit. I don't rate Laurie either. Just watching him on the field, he looked like he had no idea in his early games, and as he played more games, he didn't seem to get any better in that department. Lawrence, who had his defence issues, worked hard on them, and as he played more and more games, you saw him improve. I can't say the same thing about Laurie.

Well i think i can comment on things that can be publicy seen, such as Lui being a crap defender in both grades and also Sheens making ridiculous selections such as Moltzen ahead of Gallant and Morris as a half etc . As for training techniques i agree i know nothing about but i havnt made any comments in regards to that.
