LAWRENCE RE-SIGNS WITH WESTS TIGERS

Wests Tigers is pleased to announce the re-signing of exciting young centre Chris Lawrence to a new two-year deal.

Lawrence was off contract at the end of next season but has agreed to a new deal which will keep him at the Wests Tigers until the end of 2011.

The 19-year-old has already played 28 first grade games since making his debut in 2006.

Club and First Grade Debut: v Brisbane, Suncorp Stadium, 30/7/06 (Rd 21).

2007 season: 18 games, 16 tries, 64 points.

2008: 5 games, 2 tries, 2 goals, 12 points.

Club/Career stats: 28 games, 20 tries, 2 goals, 84 points.

At the moment I would say on the wing, but he'll eventually be a full time centre.

I would love however to see him at fullback.

I would bet my left aggie that he will be our next Hodgo.

But I see him as more of a Garry Jack type, chiming into the backline rather than a second receiver/ballplayer.

But I am glad he is ours.

You can not coach pure pace.........

Lawrence's career and style mirrors that of Brasher's quite closely. Initially Brasher's defence was very poor, and he was played on the wing or in at Centre, while Garry Jack tied up the fullback spot.

Once Jack ended his career, Brasher was slotted right into the fullback role and really come of age there as well.

At present he is a hard running gap runner but he needs people inside to create the space. A very valuable player,but still a long way to go, on a skill rating I have Collis well in front at present
