LCD or CRT?

Upgrading my computer in a few months and not sure if I should keep my old Samsung SyncMaster 753 df flat screen 17'' CRT monitor or upgrade to an LCD one. As well as using the computer for word processing, web surfing, photo printing and work, I also play a lot of graphic intensive games. One thing that bothers me about LCD monitors is the dark shadowy appearance of the display. I was playing "Battlefield Vietnam" on one of the demo computerswith an LCD monitor in Dick Smith Powerhouse. I was annoyed that I couldn't see much, despite trying to turn the brightness of the screen up full ball.

i got an lcd screen on my laptop and if you are not looking at the screen from a certain angle,ie, straight ahead, it looks terrible.

having said that however, the picture quality on photos etc is fantastic and beats the normal desktop monitor hands down. (if you are looking at the right angle :D )

IMO LCD are highly over-rated.
They serve one purpose, to save desk space.
Other than that not worth the extra.

Positives for CRT over LCD

* Higher resolution
* Can be viewed from any angle with no loss of quality
* Far superior refresh rate
* Much cheaper

Positives for LCD over CRT

* No glare

When you have a quality flat-screen CRT the picture quality is very very close to the an LCD screen. But in terms of motion the CRT is far superior. And the CRT is significantly cheaper.

Thanks guys,

Well, after hearing all that I think I'll be sticking with my old Samsung CRT.

Just one thing however, El Diablo, what brand is your LCD Monitor, what size is it and how much did you pay for it? Lastly, do the games you play on it turn out O.K. without looking too dark?

Thanks,

Although, that's an English website. I'm wondering if they sell it here in Oz and how much they'd sell it for. I'd have to see a hard-core demonstration of it first as well before I put my hard earned bucks towards it. Where did you buy yours?

That's all I could find looking it up on google.

That's cool, where did you buy yours? That way I can walk into the shop and ask one of the sales reps to fire one up for me and put it through it's paces before I decide if I'm going to buy one or keep my old flat screen CRT.

Cheers,
