Leadership

The guy who seemed to be doing the most talking was Mitch Allgood. I thought he was good in a pathetic team last night. Make him the bloody captain for all I care....

Yeah, there was one time he was giving it to everyone during one of our many rests behind the goal line, someone had to I suppose.

Now we're blaming the leaders? Don Bradman could not help us last night. Our team are talentless. Poor leadership has nothing to do with it. We are not good enough. Only we are going to win is by an act of god.

Exactly spot on.

Some of the biggest load of shit i've read that it's all about leadership. It's like saying that aussie cricket team should've had Tubby or Steve Waugh to captain the side in India and the result will be reversed.

So you reckon we're a 50 point worse side than the Chooks?

Then how do you explain us belting the Warriors?

Against the Roosters a couple of things went wrong early on and we shit ourselves. That's down to leadership.

And if you think leadership isn't a serious problem at our club then why did Sticky have such a hard time picking a captain?

We would've been competitive. We may have won a test.

We would not be a laughing stock.

Leadership makes a hell of a difference.

that's gus's adage, not the old adage.

there's been a few clubs that have become contenders in the space of an off-season or even during a season. i think poupou is right that there are leadership issues and they contributed to us not being able to get some respectability into the scoreline but i don't think that was what led to so much dropped ball and ineffective defence last night.
That's not changing the culture at all. We made the grand final in 2009 and have been shit ever since. I'd much prefer a 10% chance of winning the premiership each year for 5 years than a 50% chance of winning followed by 4 years of no chance.

As for leadership, captaining a side isn't that big a deal when things are going bad like Monday. Individual players should be able to realise the whys, whats & hows of errors, pressure and possession flows and deal with it accordingly. Only inexperience is an excuse thus why Toutai may have struggled. This is where a captain can help out that player. He shouldn't have to help out players like Keating & Roberts when they make compounding mistakes.

Thankfully it appears our 'leadershipless' leader realises this too.

This has been my issue with the club 'culture' in that we have far too many players who don't have footballing/sports intelligence. Even in our good games like against the Warriors this is pretty evident

Ricky has written columns about how hard picking the captain was; the announcement was made pretty late; and there were threee captains named.

I don't think it's a massive stretch to say he had a hard time picking a captain.

In fact you could argue that he didn't.

I don't know if ricky said it was "hard" or more that he wanted to get it right so put in alot of effort/thought doing it .... whether that is considered "hard" I dunno .... the final choice(s) were kinda obvious really

Leadership isn't just a problem at our club.

Cowboys are struggling with leadership - they're 1-3 as well, with a worse F/A than us. They lost to the Knights 34-6 last week due to poor leadership. They also don't have just 1 captain, they have 2. We can only conclude that there is a long term culture of poor leadership at the club (I believe we can attribute it to Brian Smith's visit there one time). Once they deal with their leadership issues, they might be a force?

Absolutely. Any club with a strong roster that shows wild swings of form obviously has leadership issues. The Cowboys are a clear example, along with the Raiders, Tigers and Warriors.
