Guys, RU will NEVER allow RL players to play, EVER, unless they sign over to their game. 100+ years of history to back up this statement. Even talking about it makes you look stupid. Would professional RL palyers sign over for an olympic medal? Maybe.

Long term solution, ban 7's rugby or league, ban that 20/20 rubbish. Some of us still struggle with 50/50. Ban that too. Get used of the fact that sport takes time and you don't need to be wearing a clowns nose and swilling a beer to enjoy it.........

not true... its not upto the ARU or NZRFU as to who goes in the squad. its up to the AOC or NZOC.

i could actually see it happening. maybe not with the big nations... the islands could do it.

eg.... Jarryd Hayne is rumored to have signed a new deal for 5 years. Rio is 6 years away. Hayne could play out his 5 years or extend it for another season then after winning parras 5th straight premiership ( :D ) he could play that summer on the sevens circut for Fiji in prep for the olympics. when the olympics are done he can go back to RL or play RU overseas...

Are you sure that's how it works?

When the U23 guys are picked to play soccer in the olympics they are picked by the FFA not by the AOC.

I'm fairly certain that in order to play rugby union sevens at the olympics you'd need to be affiliated with a union.

Of course if it is the other way round and the AOC picks a bunch of players from all over the shop...well...Australia won't make it past the group stage.

I am certain you are right.. The sporting bodies themselves would pick the squads and basically just hand the list of names over to the IOC.
