I am not sure weather to be offended by that or not:shock: But no I am not the infamous panthaboy. I am just another Panthers diehard tired of the taste of my own vomit after hearing of another round of Leary ineptitude.

Even under Richardson you couldn't describe our management as world class.
We had a once in a generation crop of juniors coming through including Lewis, Rooney, Waterhouse, Clinton, a gamble come good on Campbell and most other players hitting career best form, notably Gulavao who has never really put in anything more than a solid season.
Following that season we leaked players like a rusty faucet due to the structure of the contracts Richardson had in place, hamstringing us for the next 3 odd years.

My count is for the losses this year-
Sammut (100k), Romelo (55k), Graham (100k?), Pritchard (280k), Cooper (100k), Paulo (80k), Penese (55k), Elford (100k), Puletua (he was on overs I think (150k), Blair (sounds like he's gone 100k)

10 players from our 2010 top squad conservatively worth 1.12 mill...
Assuming we've topped up all of Gordon, Jennings, Lewis, Walsh, Burns contracts by 100k each and Tighe and Civ on similar money we should have 620k plus the extra 300k cap space to play with.
I think I'm being pretty conservative with these numbers and even if I'm way out we should have an assload of money to buy a marquee, a couple solid first graders and 2/3 Canberra rejects.

We haven't had what I would call top shelf management since we were admitted into the league in 67. Those in charge seem to care more about the leagues club than the actual rugby league team. Given our juniors & the leagues club behind it all we should have had a broncos type of success. The pokie tax has f**ked the leagues club now but that doesn't explain away the last 40 odd years. 2 premierships in 44 years & half a dozen finals series is bullsh*t. The 91 premiership was no accident & the aftermath was beyond Anyones control. It took longer to recover from it than it should though. 2003 was in spite of our brilliant management not because of it. We were lucky to have a group of players that just got sick of being flogged.

It's amazing how many Panthers fans around here have ended up here because they've been fed up with PI.

PI is a sheltered workshop. How dare anyone question the decisions by our management. Your posts will be deleted or you will be barred. Sounds a bit like Nazi Germany to me.

I think attending most home games since 1977, being a permanent member since 1984 and a season ticket holder for several seasons gives me the right to express an opinion? Apparently not according to the powers that be on PI. All hail the mods on PI. Gutless is a word that comes to mind.

Notice how the mods have "Ghost Accounts" (I.E. someone that is "new" to the forum made up by the mod) to push anything that comes on sale in their Panther shop.

They post crap like "Oh thanks for telling us the new hoodies are in.They look fab and I just know I'm going to like the one I'm going to buy!!..tee-hee!!"

Make you sick just reading some of the verbal sh!t that goes on at that love fest.

I think you estimates probably correct. Only Petero re-signed part of which was the marquee player rule. That wasn't the case when we signed him last time.

Also AF confirmed we had $400k to match the Bulldogs offer. So we have money just don't spend it

The following is a section of a story which appeared in today's SMH. Read the last line by Don Feltis and supporters be comforted by the fact that management is already on the lookout for a player/s to replace Pritchard (and I assume now Cooper).

Pritchard has signed a three-year deal with the Dogs reportedly worth $1.2 million. With news of the signing coming as Penrith prepare to play the Bulldogs on Monday night, some have condemned the timing as an issue that could derail Penrith's finals push.

But Panthers chairman Don Feltis was unconcerned, saying they had put a competitive offer to Pritchard and ''like a lot of players, he's elected to change his club. He leaves in good times. We've had a great time with him, he's been a great player and there's no ill feeling either way.

''We do have some plans with the money that's now available. ''

Yet Leary says we aren't active who is telling porkies???

I will tell you what will happen Leary will rush to upgrade the contracts of Plum, Purtell (With a View to shifting him to the backrow) and Smith sign a couple of Bums, declare the Panthers have a huge War chest for next season and when the middle of next season rolls around he declares we haven't got any money available for new players. He has done it before.

Greg Eastwood is exactly the sort of player who our club should be actively pursuing. He is mobile, strong, offload - second phase play, still growing and is only 24. I know there is the issue of a transfer fee involved but for Mick Leary to dismiss considering such a talent as Greg Eastwood is frankly astonishing. He is the sort of quality player who could seemlessly fit in the position vacated by Frank Pritchard.

Also if we consider they're asking 100k pounds to transfer, I'm sure they'd budge to 75k/120aud. We give Eastwood 250-300k a year and the first year we're no worse off than we would be had we kept Pritchard, and the following years we have 120k free.

Sad Leary won't even consider having a look at it.

Aside from Petero, we simply just don't sign marquee players. We have a mindset that because we have the biggest junior base in the country that we don't need to spend big dollars on players. Talk about having the blinkers on.

Funny thing about that is we cant seem to find enough plodders in our own juniors so we pay overs to get them from Canberra. Then some of the most promising of our own get cast aside, I know you cant keep em all but geez we have let some good ones go.

Don't know if you're looking for an outsider's perspective on Penrith, but bugger that because I'm going to give it anyway and I've always had a soft spot for the Panthers.

In all honesty, the Panthers seem like the worst run club in the NRL. Shafting a premiership-winning coach for a fraud like Matt Elliott was only the start. Re-signing him after taking a good squad to a wooden spoon because he'd had 3 or 4 good games to start the next season was completely unbelievable.

Leaving aside the coach, the recruitment has been an absolute shambles. The Raiders were absolutely desperate to get rid of Adrian Purtell and were ecstatic when Penrith came calling. Petero Civoniceva was an outstanding signing, it's rather unfortunate that it was the exception rather than the rule, because I truly believe the Panthers could be signing that calibre of player. Guess a lot of that comes back to the coach.

What about retention though? That's surely the worst part, to the point where even players that want to stay are forced out simply because, according to reports, the club took too long to get the offers together. Even this week there was a report that Frank Pritchard was ready to sign on to another contract but when he turned up to a meeting arranged to do so, the admin hadn't prepared it yet. How many other players has this happened to? I'm looking particularly in the direction of Luke Lewis, surely something similar happened there that caused him to sign with Souths?

Penrith and Canberra both have had a once-in-a-generation batch of talented youngsters come through their system recently. The big difference between the two clubs is that whilst the vast majority of Raiders players who came through are now starring in green, the Panthers juniors will by and large be strutting their stuff in different colours.

Travis Burns over Wade Graham? Really?

You have them too a tee Skeepe. In my discussing with Felitis last night he said no one at the club rated Wade. He is 19 FFS. Too often we are too quick to plam off players. With Frank he said according to him. He wasn't getting re-signed after round 16. So why no replacement??? Dropkicks

We have an embarassment of riches with our juniors, and our management has become lazy, just waiting for the talent to come through the junior ranks.
