All Blacks half Justin Marshall offered chance by Leeds Rhinos
All Blacks scrum-half Justin Marshall has revealed that he was offered the chance to play for the Leeds Rhinos in their World Club Challenge match.
Marshall announced last week that he had signed a two-year deal with union side Leeds Tykes from next summer.
But during talks, Marshall was asked if he would be available for the clash against National Rugby League champions Canterbury Bulldogs on 4 February.
"I would love to play but I don't think New Zealand would let me go," he said.
"Both their hookers for the game are injured and they wanted to know whether or not I'd be willing to play."
Leeds are without Great Britain international Matt Diskin for the Elland Road contest after he suffered a knee injury during the Tri-Nations series last year.

Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington blasts Marshall reports
Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington has scoffed at reports widely circulated at the weekend that the Rhinos have asked New Zealand rugby union star Justin Marshall to play for the them in the World Club Challenge.
Reports claimed that Marshall, who has signed to play for the Leeds Tykes in the next rugby union season, had revealed that he was offered the chance to play for the Leeds Rhinos in their World Club Challenge match.
Hetherington, however, dismissed the reports.
Its absolute rubbish, he told 'Rugby Leaguer & League Express.
Justins comments have obviously been misinterpreted.
He is a great admirer of Rugby League, and I suspect he would like to have a go at some stage, but he isnt contracted with the Tykes until July, and at the age of 31 I dont think it would be realistic to see him playing Rugby League.
