Im just saying your story has evolved over time … you used to say that ALL travel costs were imposed upon them by he ARL ( not that they agreed to pay them themselves) and that the only reason they moved to Super League was because they were broke … although they had agreed to join SL before they had played their first game …how could they be broke already from paying travel costs ?

I think it’s all rather unnecessary excuse making to try to explaIn away their previous failure back in 1995 … when about half the other teams failed as well during the biggest upheaval the game has seen ..: they were never going to make it through to the other side regardless of their financial and on field performace …
Again thats your interpretation of what Ive said. ALL travel costs were imposed on them by the ARL. They did agree to pay them as part of getting a license as it was a requirement, not an option, Ive never said different.
The big blow to their financial future, or so Ive been told by a board member of the time, was the late adding of the extra imposition of another side which was never budgeted for. Travel back then was bloody expensive and a major area of expenditure for the club.

Hence why they knew they were in some financial strife before they had even kicked off and why SL looked very attractive. It wasnt that they were broke in 1994 but they could see the challenges ahead.

Yep it is but somehow it seems Reds are the only one that 'failed'. I dont even know why its a point of discussion now. Its thirty years later and the world and the NRL are in no way comparable to 1995.

Look make up your mind which lie you want to run with and stick to it

First you said the reds had agreed to and budgeted for the travel costs now you are saying they were the cause of the club becoming so broke that in four weeks of playing in the nrl they had to run to News Ltd to rescue them ):
sigh, I'll get the crayons out for you!

1992 Reds signed a license agreement that included the requirement for them to pay all travel and accommodation costs
1994 ARL adds another competition in and Reds are forced to cover those costs as well despite not having budgeted for them
1995 SL offers a ton of money to a club that knew it was in trouble because of last minute impositions.

Same reason Cronulla, NQ and probably every other SL club jumped ship

Savvy?

What happened in 1994?! Move to 20 teams was confirmed in 1992.

How many times did you meet with this ex board member ?

his info was a bit shaky here …. Thought the SL war started in 96 not 95 and that Perth had already been playing 12 months prior before they agreed to sign with SL

SL was mean't to start in 1996. Court meant those clubs had to stay, hence the forfeits in Round 1 by those clubs

So spending of an extra 100k unbudgeted would’ve sent the club broke

lol

Funny thing is all these years you complained about the arl imposing travel costs on the reds sending them broke now another poster has Informed us sponsors were covering this

Everything you’ve been saying about the reds for 20 years is just your bs spin to deflect the blame from the clubs poor decisions

Nope, learn your history. and tbh I’m bored rehashing the same conversation of something that happened 30 years ago. Move on.

Perth had decided to go to super league in 95

He says in that post it was 1996 when the club realised the costs involved with running a club weren’t feasible

So obviously they had decided to go to super league well before they were aware of any financial issues

Interesting podcast above from the super league war series linked to earlier .,, this episode focused on the demise of the Reds

Short answer- It was never going to work at that time … there wasn’t an appetite from either News Ltd or the ARL to pump in the dollars required to keep them afloat..,

Which is interesting because Perth at the time was effectively relocated via defunction to Melbourne. True that there wasn't interest from the east or locally to sustain them long term.

The move to 20 teams was ambitious and flawed. Crushers never got a chance cos of the Broncos wanting to maintain the monopoly they'd forged. ARL should've known it was risky given how the Gold Coast were floundering.
