Has anybody noticed this piece of crap on the official NRL site under the heading "history"?
(it's at http://www.nrl.com/thegame/history.cfm)
and states:
Quoting True Blue: The Story of the NSWRL by Ian Heads, Sydney: Ironbark Press, 1992 as its source, this little piece perpetuates the myth that we were behind Glebe in being formed.
So just why do we have receipt number 1 from the NSWRL, then? Why do we have the original minutes book with the foundation meeting dated as being held on January 8th, 1908?
Mr Heads himself has said in correspondance with the club that he was unaware of these pieces of evidence when he wrote the above and is now unsure of Glebe's premier status.
I encourage all Newtown supporters to contact the NRL and insist that this item be corrected.
In years to come, it's items like this that will become accepted as history, so it's up to us to make sure the truth is told.
Also note that not only does the same site's pop-up "timeline of league" propagate the same falsehood, it also omits to mention our suspension from top grade in 1983.
It does, of course, itemise such far more important league happenings as Bill Harrigan winning the Rugby League Week Players' Best Referee Poll in 1992.
To contact the NRL regarding this, you can visit their "contact us" page, which (unsurprisingly) produces an error page that fobs you off with the web-site creator's contact e-mail of [email protected]
Otherwise, perhaps a flood of snail mail to their street address might be a bit more emphatic. Here it is:
National Rugby League Ltd
Driver Ave
Moore Park NSW 2021
Let's set the record straight.
