I'm 18 idiot ;-) , i'm just very passionate about all era's of league and my father has a large collection of footage and stories on earlier generations. Di*kheads like you who think league only began in 1985 are an embarrasment to most league fans. You obviously don't know anything about RL's history so why post in a thread that requires some knowledge of past generations.

I couldn't imagine putting Langlands and Gasnier on the wing - two of the most damaging backs the game has ever known.

Ken Irvine should get one of the wing jobs. IMO, the other winger would be between Grothe, Sailor, Blacklock, King, Lumsden and Bevan.
Gasnier and Dave Brown in the centres. Sorry Bozo.

Langlands at fullback.
As great as Churchill was, Langlands has a better record which speaks for itself.

It needs a poll. Who could be bothered to go through every post in this thread and count the number of times a players was voted for.

You can have a poll while having opinions in the thread. Lockyer would win a poll though coz there is so many people who don't know much about players from past era's.

I think this would be the thread creators responsibility

How many polls do you see where others feel "Why isnt so & so in?" and "what about whatsisname?"

A poll is just the creators opinion.

Well that's not a good endorsement for polls. And a lot of people vote without saying why.
lol. I've seen that many polls corrupted that you have to wonder. They're fun ofcourse.

How old are you by the way Willow, I keep forgetting to ask ya
Put it this way, I remember hearing the 65 grand final and recall everyone getting into a flap when Harold Holt drowned in 67. We heard it on the radio because my folks were still saving up for a TV. lol.

I'd agree with Willow on a couple of those. Dave Brown is a must, as is Irvine, but I'd have Chang before Puff.

Whilst pushing the Magpie barrow though serious consideration should definitely be given to Alan Ridley. He scored 63 tries in 64 games for us, smashed the Poms also. He was selected for the 29-30 Kangaroo tour at 18 before he had even played first grade in the city or country. He'd been selected for the Southern Districts rep side from juniors, then NSW and Australia. Also holds the club record for tries in a season (18) and a game (6 against Newtown). He was big fast and strong, and the Poms hated him so much that he came out of retirement in 36 to play rep footy and the selectors put him in all three test sides. A dead set great.

Did you ever see Peter Dimond Yappy?

I dunno your age ...though imagine your around my vintage, PD was apparently pretty good....though I guess were not up to wing yet.

I saw Langlands but dont remember much....Garry Jack, John Dorahy and Graham Eadie my top 3 .

Best fullback ever...so many contenders.

Take your pick from Churchill, Langlands, Eadie, Barnes, Jack, Belcher and Lockyer.

So many old timers that I know talk about Churchill as a genius, a player that they would of liked to see in a professional era. In the same breath, they say that 'boy Lockyer is brilliant and is on the same footing with the little fella'.

Growing up, Garry Jack was simply a marvel in the last line of defence and under the bomb. Jack was not in the Lockyer mould where he would make plays with the ball rather relying on injecting himself into the line and making the play from fielding the kick.

Gary Belcher I feel was the catalyst for the modern day heros of today, guys like David Peachey, Brett Mullins and Darren Lockyer IMO have moulded their game around him as Badge' was a brilliant attacking player equally adept in defence and under the towering bomb.

In summary, I will take Lockyer thankyou very much, a rare one in a million player that can do it all on the football field. The current Australian captain and five-eight still sets the bar for the modern day fullback and he would not look out of place in a ALL TIME GREAT Rugby League side wearing the number 1 jersey.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Lockyer was listed in one of the great Roo' teams of all time if memory serves me correctly (if someone can confirm or correct that, it would be much appreciated as this fact has slipped my mind..).

My vote: Darren Lockyer (Brisbane Broncos)
