Let's talk about the evolution of technology.

Technology is one of those very interesting things I like talking about. How far have we come in the last 30 years?

Phones!

Phones have gone from being device that simply allowed you to talk to someone remotely to something that... well, you'd spend less time talk about what phones CAN'T do!

Audio!

Remember back in late 80s and early 90s, a walkman used to be the coolest thing ever with those bulky headphones? Then as time went on, they become slightly slimmer, smaller, slicker and the headphones went and in came the earphones? Then walkmans went off the rails altogether and everyone wanted a discman? They become the best things to have. Playing cds on the go. The discman then went out and in came the MD player from sony, so you were still playing cds, but mini cds and they were set to replace cds for good (lol). Then apple came along with it's iPod, and the rest is history!

Visual!

Visual speaks from itself, similarly to audio. We've gone from have Video recorders to dvd players, and since then, HD DVD (lol), blu-ray players which include media players so you can plug your usb in your blu-ray player or tv and watch a show or movie without actually owning something physical that relates to it (apart from the USB) via digital download!

Video Games!

Remember the black and white (or mercy green) Nintendo gameboy? That's gone from adding colour and 3d graphics to the Nintendo 3DS - an 8th generation hand-held console.

Do I even need to start? Back in the days, you used to have turns playing video games and swapping the control pad around, then it went to split-screen playing, then online and blue-tooth wireless playing, and now, you can have 2 different people playing a game on the same screen, with a pair of glasses that (similarly to 3d tv), have 2 people look at the same screen and see 2 completely different things. Gone are the split-screen games, now you can play the same game at the same time and see 2 different things on the screen depending on what glasses you're wearing.

There's HEAPS more, GPS systems, internet fridges, smart cars (auto reverse parking), watches - that's right WATCHES! Remember the calculator watches? Or the watches that contained radio players? The watches that contained a TV remote control? Now we have internet-phone watches. The list goes on...

Technology will be so smart one day that it will be able to think for itself. If you've seen I, Robot, you'll know what I'm talking about. I don't think it's far-fetched at all and could be quite scary if you think about it.

How about the fact that in about 130 years we've gone from primitive three wheeled horseless carriages to the mundane task of strapping ourselves into aluminium tubes powered by high explosives and blasting through the air at 900km/hr

Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it, charge it, point it, zoom it, press it, snap it, work it, quick - erase it, write it, cut it, paste it, save it, load it, check it, quick - rewrite it, plug it, play it, burn it, rip it, drag and drop it, zip - unzip it, lock it, fill it, call it, find it, view it, code it, jam - unlock it, surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it, cross it, crack it, switch - update it, name it, rate it, tune it, print it, scan it, send it, fax - rename it, touch it, bring it, pay it, watch it, turn it, leave it, start - format it.

I thought they would be able to go faster than 900km/h - I mean I thought the A380 airbuses can fly close to 1000 km/h!

What about the advancement and evolution of perhaps the most interesting technology overall; medical technology?

Vaccine advancement is a great one to look at.

the first small pox inoculations for example involved cutting slits in your skin and shoving other people's old small box scabs in there, or grinding those old scabs into powder and snorting them.

Imagine how many Oprah watching mothers would be against vaccines if that were still practiced today

It's amazing that small pox has been contained. I can't see the same thing happening for the chickenpox though. However it would be amazing!

Chicken pox is pretty mild so its a bit like who cares. There is a vaccine that works ok but its only been around a short time. I'm as pro vaccination as anyone but considering the way these things evolve I do worry if we are just setting ourselves up for some issues.

Bacteria transfers DNA horizontally and reproduces constantly. Viruses are prone to mutation and have a host of annoying tricks to combine with other viruses.

So the geniused boomers eating antibiotics like candy whenever they got a cold has put us perhaps on the verge of an antibacterial resistance crises.

Only if there's benefit to the people who have it done to them. Otherwise they wouldn't accept that kind of violation of their autonomy.

That's why I added new born babies, eventually the rest of us will die out.

What happens if employers start asking for chip information because it holds criminal records on it? No chip, no job. Then it starts becoming a neccessity.

Won't happen in our lifetime thankfully, but one day it wouldn't surprise me. Most technology starts out for a specific purpose but filters down to mainstream society because there's money to be made. Don't see this being any different.

There are already chips being worked on that open household doors automatically, for those who are physically incapable for various reason. How long until it becomes a mainstream option just because people are too lazy to open their doors?

The longer it's around the more acceptable it will become.

And yes, I don't mind the odd government conspiracy, even if I don't believe 90% of them. :D
