Life without Gibbs

Just quickly; we're gunna miss him. We laid out the usual good platform with he and big Keefy. Kept it going to an extent with the younger guys on. Groat and Woods (and CH) cost us the first try with a lost ball from a pointless offload attempt and forgetting to tackle around the ruck.

That sort of stuff you can understand, it'll take them time to develop as footballers. But we've talked all year about the impact Gibbs has when he's on the field... to the point where in many games it seems like we're just holding on during the middle session waiting for him to get back out there so we can kill the game off.

Next year we've only got one genuine top class front rower. I'm disappointed we lost, but it's compounded by the fact that we probably won't be as good next year.

Have to agree with your comments on Gibbs, you see it every week. We start good with Gibbs and Galloway, then we tread water until Gibbs comes back on to finish the game.

I was actually going to start a new thread on what was our biggest mistake this year. I thought about a few points along the lines of resigning Sheens (at the actual time in the season we did), the off loading of players, the way we handled the Blair signing and ultimately the way we played our last game.

Letting Gibbs go will be the big mistake, I will be sad to see him go.

Amen westie. We saw last night what a Tigers team without Gibbs will look like. I suppose Blair will bring something useful to our pack but it will take a lot to plug our holes up the middle like Gibbs has done. We got completely rolled in the second half - gave them easy metres, and no space for our own backline to work with.

It was a glimpse ar what our defence might look like next year without him, and tbh, things look bleak. He fits perfectly in our tram, and for the role he plays, there is no one in the world who can replace him. And i'm still adamant that we've lost outbylosing gibbs for blair

Gibbs is a great defender however I think Woods is already a better player than him. Groat also looks like he can be a really good lateral mover and take up that role that Gibbs has been doing for us.

We will miss him but we'll get over it.

Of course we will. But just how long will that take?

The fact that he copped the injury in the first place plays strongly on my mind. I mean, he's getting on a bit now and his absence during the second half was critical...

I think we are right to move on from him, but that doesn't mean we wont miss him for a good while.

We'll miss him but you can see why he is being let go: how many times has he been injured in the past two seasons?

IMO his body is f**ked.

He rolled an ankle. Hardly something to do with an ageing body. He's still 10 years younger than many of the guys regarded as the dominant props in the world.

Not just the ankle westie. Look at his injury record in the past 24 months. He is missing more games each season.

Gibbs has often played when he is not 100% fit and this is now taking its toll IMO. He will be lucky to play until 30 with his body.

im actually hoping blair plays front row for us. then we would have the best starting frontrow in the nrl (blair & galloway). we dont need blair playing 2nd row/lock when we have ellis, fulton, heighington. blair was one of the best props in the world a few years ago

I can think of a few that are much better. The Cowboys Scott & Tamou, the Broncos Hannant & Civo/McGuire come to mind.

gibbs in undoubtedly a massive, massive loss. hard to argue that if he doesnt get injured on friday we win.

i got told that the coaching staff see him as hugely injury prone and thats why he was let go, not to do with anything performance wise.

woods and groat will very good players but arent at gibbs level yet. groat shouldnt have played the semis imo, he really cost us against the warriors. someone like al shirnack would have been a much better option

I think schirnak is past it at this stage ,have you seen him in the lower grades lately??..We lost the game when our 2 senior players could not get the kick away on the 5th tackle which led to game killer field position for the warriors .
anyway thats my opinion.

admittedly i didnt see any BRET this year however i thought schirnak was great in first grade at the start of the year. was terrific in defence and did some good things in attack.

He will be a big loss and sorely missed, but if you can see the potential in our foward pack next year possibly looking like this:

13. Heighnington
12. Ellis
11. Blair
10. Galloway
09. Farah
08. Woods

looks pretty good..all have been selected in some sort of rep team this year aswell

I think we're one quality experienced prop short.

If Galloway gets injured.......left with Woods, Bell, Blair.

Groat needs a lot of work and shouldn't be considered for firsts next year IMO.

Agree re Groat..he has a ways to go for sure but i guess Sheens sees what he needs to see in him. Considering the way we lost the first semi last year to the chooks it's very hard to compehend how Farrah and Marshall could have EVER been caught on the last tackle on the halfway line (especially Farah) with a few minutes to go... Lui should have been ready to put it over the deadball line ...clock wouldn't have stopped and the warriors sure wouldn't have used their 40 seconds to get their breath back...ah well...for me it was a great season nonetheless..well done fellas

It looks good but for mine Fulton has to start every week, he is too good a player not to.

I would start Woods on the bench, fulton in the second row and Blair at prop. You can move Blair to second row during the game when Woods, Groat etc come on.

Woods has to start with his performances this year.

A dark horse must be Mosese Fotuaika together with BMM. Both offer impact from the interchange and Fotuaika is an outstanding prospect like BMM.

I think BMM is a long way off deserving a shot on his efforts so far .
