These people just don't know what the f**k they are doing. At least they seem to have good intentions about increasing Pacific activity, bless them.

lol, A lions tour is borrowing straight from yawnion! Isn't there already this concept in league, although it is called GB.

British teams touring down under have been called the lions since the 1922 tour and GB Lions since the 1948 if anything Union stole the name, which is nothing new for them 😉.

we already have the ashes, bring that back.

"“Any competition that involves Australia v Great Britain in any sport is always a success. It isn’t about increasing workload so we would have to change the current structure to look at a GB tour.”

very interesting, hinting at a shortened season?? I'd like 20-22 games per team. 3 weeks off for rep footy and 2 byes (to be used in the weeks before and during that rep break).

seasons too long for modern players, and theres too much footy for consumers.

If the nrl expands by a couple of teams, the loss of a few rounds won't matter because there will still be the same amount of games played overall. More time for international games and more opportunity for international players to play in the nrl

what a pile of shit...

can all australian journos just f**k off sticking their f**king noses in...

they have absolutely no idea how a GB tour impacts the 4 home nations that are striving to carve out their own identity as seperate test nations!!

they got offered a ashes series next year but knocked it back...so just f**k off back to your origin wanking circle and let the rest of us worry about actually growing international league

I'd give up on that pipe dream mate. Life is not long enough. League has been going on for 100 years and not much has changed. Sure, you can create niche markets where there is league played, but it will never attract the top athletes. So these countries can never be truly competitive, not without the help of foreigners (aka heritage players). It is a question of the culture of these places. You can't manufacture a passion for the game. It's like ozzie rules footy.

wow, how international is that, lol!!!!!

Are they forgetting the fact that there were Lions tours many years ago before Super League?

Words like "Union Style" and "introduce a GB team" makes out like its a new idea.

We're basically revisting what happened in 1992, and hope to see it back.

It was supposed to be back in 2012, didnt happen.

Agree. 20 is enough. Season is so long, teams can cruise along, lose half their games and make the finals. The 'events' on the calendar are also boring/tired. City vs Country zzz. One off Anzac test is meh. All Stars? what a waste of time.

A Lions tour? now we are talking.

IIRC when it used to be Great Britain playing in the 3 nations wasn't it just an all English side plus Brian Carney.

The whole concept of a Great Britain team just lacks meaning in League at the moment... I'd love to see it revived, but not until Scotland, Wales and Ireland are all home to at least 1 Super League team each with a solid development base to support it. Otherwise GB in League is really just England for the most part.

^ It's totally needless and pointless, and what makes this even stupider is that a GB tour was actually proposed for next year but the NRL turned it down, which is why the England vs NZ series is happening instead.

I think it's getting to the point where people are starting to realize that the NRL and ARL just don't have a clue when it comes to international RL and the best thing is probably just to leave them to it until they move into the 20th century (right now they're still in the 19th).

Bloke that wrote the article must be drunk union style Wtf? And hecan't even spell Saturday right (last sentence)

Dean ritchie another news ltd "journalist" and apparent league reporter. Who despite his age doesnt seem to think GB aka the lions ever toured the southern hemisphere before. Mind boggling stuff how these stories get written and then approved.

I would be happy with a tour every 4 years rotating between UK, australia and NZ. Let the nation not involved in the tour play home tests v pacific/euro sides.

The problem is that would mean the Ashes might only be held in Australia once every 12-16 years at best.

I'd rather:
2015, 2023 etc -- Anzac Series in Australia & New Zealand, Ashes in Australia, Baskerville in New Zealand - each country plays 6 games

2019, 2027 etc -- Anzac Series in Australia & New Zealand, Ashes in England, Baskerville in England - each country plays 6 games

That makes it
Anzac - every 4th year at home
Ashes/Baskerville - every 4th year but at home every 8th year

I like the idea that Welsh Scottish and Irish leagues can grow out of the shadow of England

Seems to work well on RU
