There were a lot of Jewish world champion boxers early last century; Benny Leonard, Barney Ross, Maxie Rosenbloom to name a few.

Surely with Sydney's large Jewish population and many who follow the Roosters, a Israeli side could be formed along the lines of Lebanon, Greece etc?

Possibly. According to the israeli RU website RU was:
first played in Israel at the time of the British Mandate by soldiers from the British, Australian and New Zealand forces, with local teams drawn from the ranks of the military Physical Education Instructors. In the early days of the State of Israel the game was continued basically by immigrants from
Anglo-Saxon countries, but it gradually disappeared from the local scene and re-started only after the flow of new immigrants following the 1967 Six Day War.

During 1972/3 a proper league structure was formed by rugby players from South Africa, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand and until 1975 the Union was run by the players themselves.

If total foriegners can start up a comp that has evolved into what they have today it should be heartening for RL folk trying to establish RL in the small RL countries.

Well done Israeli RU.

The above quote goes to show you why RL has been so truncated in its growth, too. The British Army spreading the game worldwide aling with the other institutions of the colonial office and British Empire.

League, as we know, was ILLEGAL in the armed forces till 1994.

Why deny the past evils of union?

Leeds has a large Jewish community and a large number of Jewish people played league in the 1920's.

New Zealand , Australia and the Pacific Islands countries rugby comps weren't start it by the British miltary .
The Marist Brothers brought the game to the Pacific Islands . I think the same groups of Catholics did the same in France and Argentina .

Why use union for leagues failures do you not believe that the product is good enough to stand on its own feet ?
