Live music brilliance

A truly great gig has the opportunity to simply make you feel great, or even to change your outlook on life. I'm here posting this thread after witnessing an incredible set by The Cat empire in Brisbane tonight.

I'm only 23, but have had the opportunity to see dozens of wonderful bands over the last nine years or so. I'd have to say that tonight's performance from the boys was EASILY in the best three gigs that I have EVER witnessed (and that list of shows includes Neil Young, Bob Dylan and many, many others).

I actually don't know if Australia has ever produced a better live band, tbh. All members on stage are supreme musicians with classical training, and they can work a crowd better than anyone I have ever seen before. The atmosphere generated at the River Stage was absolutely incredible tonight - 10,000+ people in the showery weather dancing and getting involved in absolutely everything.

I've been at home for over an hour but am still absolutely buzzing after such an amazing experience, so I thought it'd be wicked to hear from other posters on here about the great gigs that they have been to throughout their lives. :D

24th and 25th November 2006.

U2. First playing of One Tree Hill in nearly 17 years and closing the second show with One Tree Hill in sight from the stadium with it as well as everything else from those nights = life changing.

Over a year later i'm still buzzing (and still not dry from the rain on the 24th)

You wait until you have seen the Arcade Fire live, then you will see what live music is all about.

Sammy Hagar blew me away. His energy, his voice and a cracking 2.5 hour show made it an unbelievable experience.

Devin Townsend

Baby Animals were superb

Dave Matthews Band

And of course Sting was so good that I rushed out after the concert to buy tickets to the next show as well.

Expecting big things from Immortal in March

Nine Inch Nails - Brisbane, River Stage, 07

10,000+ people moshing and singing along = awesome

plus I was right at the front of the pit

Danzig - Brisbane, The Arena, 06

They did a Misfits set with Doyle and during 'We are 138' Glenn leaned over and gave the mic to my friend and I to sing into.

Lets see for different reason
Frenzal Rhomb, particularly in january last year was great, so much fun and pretty much my favourite band
The Living End in 2004 was rediculously good, great musicians and played alot of great stuff.
NOFX last year was great, in particular the decline live.
Bad Religion was Amazing, absolutely brilliant

I have seen Don Mclean sing American pie on his acoustic guitar to about 20 people in a bar.

I win.

2 very different shows but both very memorable would be Pearl Jam at Eastern Creek in 94, touring on the back of Vitalogy.Just an incredible night with an enormous crowd and a great atmosphere.
The other was seeing the Deftones before they were all that well known here, at the Iron Duke hotel in Alexandria. There was probably only 200 people in the room and they were incredible. They had only just released around the fur and i believe it was there first time over here.

Crowded House- November 11 last year, Brisbane Entertainment Centre. They know how to put on a kick-arse show. I think they did about three encores, I kept thinking "Surely this has to be their final song" then they came back out for more.

Paul Kelly/ Brian Wilson live in The Domain last month. My mate and I were right up the front, we got both pages of the setlist at the end of the gig and the people dancing around us were funny as hell. Never thought I'd crowd-surf or see people crowd surf to Brian Wilson  Oh, and it was all free.

of the shows ive recently been too......

Frenzal at the metro was insane. best 22 dollars ive ever spent on tickets! i had a ball. met gordie forman afterward. he signed my shirt "f**k off - Gordie"

"Guns N Roses" was..interesting to say the least. Rose Tattoo was great. sebastian Bach was loud..but i didnt rate him all thet highly.

The guns show..well. the first few songs were great, then axl got tired and they split the show up with solos.
if they had cut it down to 80 minutes instead of 2 hours the show would have been brrilliant.

Nightrain and Paradise City were great at the end, but you couldnt help feeling it was a glorified cover band.

I'd have to say of all concerts I have been too Jay Z blew me away.
I wasn't a big fan of his before hand, was dragged along to the concert by my bf and he just went off, he is an awesome performer, I was on my feet the rocking out the whole. I walked out of that concert a big fan.

As soon as I saw this thread I knew it had to be the Cat Empire. I've seen some terrible comparisons of what people think is live music brilliance in this thread and figure they haven't been to a live Cat Empire gig.

I was also at riverstage and that was my least preferred of their 3 gigs I've seen in my life, but it was still awesome. The first time I saw them years ago was like nothing else, and it was free of the Nova bandwagoners too which made the atmosphere even more electric.

Seen them. Completely underwhelming. Nope, scratch that. God-awful.

Reel Big Fish put on a great show, as do the Dropkick Murphys and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing at least one of those bands, I pity you.
