Liverpool v Chelsea - CL Semi Final 2nd Leg

Chelsea return to Anfield tonight exactly 2 years since they were knocked out on the same Ground.

Unfortunetly from a Chelsea fans perspective similar problems injury problems have arisen at exactly the wrong moment. 2 Years ago Chelsea missed Duff and Robben, without the width and pace, they battered down the door for 90 minutes but didn't have the variation in attack to make the breakthrough.

This season Carvalho, Shevchenko and Ballack have all gone down in the last 10 days and all will miss the return leg. Sheva and Ballack have gardly set the world on fire however their best form has been in the CL for Chelsea. Both have scored important goals in the Knock out stages and their experience will be missed. The biggest loss however is undoubtably Carvalho. He has been the rock for Chelsea this season with Terry out for long peridods and Gallas moved on. A very clasy defender who has a knack of making interceptions at the last moment. We lost 2-0 without him at Anfield in January, I pray for none of the same.

Kalou has hit some form and he should get the start alongsidde Drogba. Ferreira had agood first leg and will probably get the nod at right back. If Chelsea can score I feel we can finally progress to the final, although im sure even then it won't be stress free. I have just put money on Liverpool progressing, just to ease my pain if we go out in the Semis for the 3rd time in 4 years. I will very gladly part company with this money.

Robben has been injured for a few weeks and won't be back.

Just heard that Shevchenko has refused to travel with the side after learning he was dropped and on the bench. Ged rid of him i say, Kalou has a great future and has certainly deserved more starts then the bumbling Sheva.

Fair enough Schev is crucial to the side. By not having hi in the side, you could easily lose. He is proven in Champions League football!

He's proven in Serie A too, but that hasn't helped him out in the EPL.

If he is that precious that he won't travel with the side as he has been relegated to the bench then Chelsea need to get rid of him - it is no good for morale amongst the squad.

Man u did it with Ruud.

Well done Liverpool. They deserved it. Had 2 or 3 good chances with Kuyt to go through before pelalties. Liverpool defnese giant once again. Once it was penalties it was all over, Reina is panther like and was always going to beat Cech who is a great goalkeeper but certainly not half as agile.

As for Chelsea, just another all too familiar exit and all too familiar performance. When you hoof 1000 long balls to Drogba and rely soley on one player to win the match for you it is disgraceful for a supposed top team. For all the capable players we have to not even try and play some football through midifeld was pitiful and Liverpool just double teamed Drogba all night. Chelsea were just looking for a slice of luck all night. When Cole, Lampard, Kalou and the like cannot even manage one attacking shot on goal in 2 hours as a Chelsea fan you can only scratch your head.

For all the fighting spirit and great last minute victories the bottom line is we are out of the CL after leading the first leg 1-0. Jose has had a great time at Chelsea but i think he is gone after this, very sad but very likely. Abramovich axed Ranieri after fluffing the sem final aganist Monoco and I would be very surprised if that is not it for Jose. He has done a superb job in making Chelsea a very hard beat to beat and with a great spirit, however tonight all I saw was one tactic, the same tactic that produced a duck egg in the semi final in 2005. It's just was not good enough im afraid, and extremely frustrating to watch

Well Done to Essien and Maka for fantastic peroformance.

AT least I can cry into my TAB collect on the healthy odds of Liverpool progressing!

chelsea did indeed play negative tactics with the long balls to drogba.

mourinho's little experiment, bringing geremi on to take a penalty, also failed

I like Chelsea, I was going for them but I don't hate Liverpool, and I'll be going for them in the final. Only downside is my sports multi is now dead :x:x:x

Today's game was pure :? though...both teams just hoofing long balls to their target man. Not good at all.
