Liverpool V Chelsea

Last chance for both sides tonight at Anfield. Both sides have had banana skins aplenty and have handed the advantage to Man U on a platter. With Man U surging any larger then a 5 point gap and it would be all over for Liverpool and Chelsea. A draw tonight is bad for both sides, and they must put it all on the line to acheive 3 points.

Chelsea have managed to win 4 straight win the Old Trafford debacle. However it has been anything but convincing. FA Cup struggles over lower league teams, last minute wins over Stoke and a dour effort against a woeful Middlesbrough.

We have not won against the Big 4 all seasons and have not looked like doing so. Something that was such common place in the Mourinho era. No longer being able to keep clean sheets in these big games, with with big time players like Terry, Deco, Drogba below their best the signs are not good. Chelsea have looked predictable and stale in this 4-3-3 formation for months now. Wingers that dont produce enough quality or goals.

Liverpool will fance their chances at Anfield. They have a good record over Chelsea at home. Often producing extremely energetic performance hustling the middle of the park. Very hard to break down usually.

Can't be confident here but heres hoping.

0-0 Halftime.

As predicted Liverpool are taking a stanglehold on this match without yet making it count. They are relentless with their tackles and pressure in midfield. Chelsea look hurried and sloppy at the back and in midfield. Worst of all they look completely cluleess up front, managing one limp header wide of the target. They are lucky to be level, Liverpool just missing a few passes and touches when it matters in the final 3rd.

Terry and Alax are doing ok, however Cech looks very dodgy. Ballack and Mikel looking languid, being out hussled. With Drogba sitting on the bench Scolari may as well use him. He has a good record over Liverpool and even if his committment and fitness levels are poor we can do no worse at current. Kalou and Malouda are having one of their infamous headless chicken days.

The Class of Gerrard and Torres are threatening to link up, whilst the graft of Macherarno and Alonso are wearing Chelsea down. We need tor run harder and be alot sharper all over the park, otherwise Liverpool will get the reward they currently deserve. Its just not good enough so far, really lacking in quality and losing all the 50/50 battles, 2nd balls.

Liverpool win 2-0.

On the balance of play they certainly deserved it. However once again Mike Riley decided to steal the show. Sending off Frank Lampard, possibly the worst decision of the season. If anything Alonso should of been booked, Lampard got the ball and Alonso was late with his kick. A real howler, and Liverpool's late goal will surely spell the end of Riley in any big games for the future.

Chelsea were listless before the send off. Alex, JT and A.Cole weregame and brave in defense. Cech had a stinker and god knows what he was doing for Torres goal, woefully out of position. He has gone from world class to poor in the Premiership. Take the helmet off or retire Cech.

Anyway, Liverpool will race Man U for the title. Probably in vain. Chelsea just need to ensure they finish in the top 4 and then make alot of changes in the summer. The side is stale and ageing.

Pretty good summation there Ed.
For Liverpool it doesnt matter if its Chelsea or Wigan they play the same way and its just a matter if a)we can convert the chances and score and b)if we dont give away a silly goal if we can mange to nick one.
Lampard sending off certainly nullified that one tonight.
Take your pick on which ref they want to use. They are all below par.Webb's probably the best of them but alls they'll do to Riley is slap him on the wrist. Not good enough for a shocking decision.
I think Rafa did well tonight for a change.Picked what he thought was our best side to play Chelsea which is a compliment to them.Pity he doesnt do that every week. Its cost us dearly.

people complain about Ronaldo diving... but is there a player in the PL who is more responsible for players getting red cards than Alonso...

As a Chelsea fan despite the BS send off we were sh*t and Liverpool deserved their win. Brave defending from a few though (as Eddie said Alex, JT, and Cole).

People should stop targetting Alonso then with their tackles

Yes a dodgey sending off, in fairness to Riley the angle he would've seen it makes it look bad and it didnt look good in real time. Thats what gets me with whinging bout refs decisions, refs dont have the benifit of a million slow motion angles, they have a second a make a decision and any tackle when a player goes sliding in studs up looks bad. Not a good decision but these things happen in professional sport, hell last season we were robbed of 3 points at Anfield vs Chelsea when you guys got a very very dodgey penalty. It just goes to show that everything evens up in the end.

What more can you say about Fernando Torres, f**kin hero. Gerrard very good yet again. Much better feeling than drawing with f**king Wigan

Villa even with Chelsea now.

Will Scolari make it to a second season with Chelsea? Avram Grant looking pretty good now

Gerrard was up to his usual tricks with some very theatrical dives. Great player though. He and Torres are class.

Red Bear Scolari has failed all the big tests so far. He seems like he has one tactics and if Plan A doesn't work there isint anything to turn to. Against all the Big 4 this season Chelsea have failed to create hardly any clear cut chances. We have been blunt and easily nullified. In Scolari's favour is the fact that he did not choose is sqaud, it is ageing and stale and in need of refreshment. There are injuries and there are players that don't want to be there.

Scolari probably deserves the chnace to make his mark on the squad in the summer. Although i certainly would not be dissapointed if he were to be sacked. Like i said he has failed all the big tests.

All of those players deserved what they got. No one messes with the Basque maestro and gets away with it.

You have to admit he is a bit of a victim of Roman's tight purse this year, something that Mourinho never had to deal with.
