just stemming off another thread. i would be interested to know for teams top squad. how many of the players are juniors, or have been developed by the club.

just to make it a little less subjective, include juniors AND players who have only played first grade at that club.

for bris.

1. Hunt
2. Boyd
3. Michaels
4. Hodges
5. Kemp
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Hannant
9. Ennis
10. Clinton
11. Stagg
12. Parker
13. Carroll

14. PJ Marsh
15. Sims
16. Thaiday
17. Taylor

18. Eastwood
19. Hewitt
20. Kenny
21. Moon
22. Roberts

Wasn't Hannant developed at the Roosters?
I realise he is a QLD'er, but he played lower grades at the Chooks. Didn't he also make his 1st grade debut at the Chooks? Might be wrong on that last point.

10. Jason Ryles
11. Beau Scott
12. Ben Creagh

Hornby - Dragons
Morris twins - Dragons
Nightingale - Dragons
Gasnier - Dragons
Cooper- Dragons
Rangi Chase - Non Dragons
Jamie Soward - Non Dragon

Poore - Dragon
Ben Ellis - 1st grade debut at Dragons
Ryles - Dragon
Scott - Dragon
Creagh - Dragon
Young - Dragon

Setu - Dragon
Hunt - Dragon
Thorby - Kiwi, developed by Dragons, 1st grade debut as a Dragon

Not sure many other teams can match that, possibly Newcastle, in terms of Locals I mean.

Pretty sure he was in the junior system at the Broncs when the roosters snared him.

I think he did make he debut in firsts for the chooks, but he would qualify on being a junior, as opposed to only playing first grade for Bris.

Setu has been developed by us. 1st grade debut with us.
Thorby came to us of his own accord and we have bought him into 1st grade.

Fair enough, I wasn't sure when he went down to the Chooks from QLD.

Ben Farrar was an Eels Junior on the cusp of first grade when he signed with NQLD, and I believe Southern is an ex Dragon and Vaeau an ex Bronco...

out of sydney teams are always going to have large numbers in this case. wests tigers do pretty well for a sydney club i think, mainly cause we never buy anyone of note

Correct, Steve Southern is a Dragons junior, from Dapto if I'm not mistaken.

add Luke Burt.

he grew up in Redhead but Parra had him all the way through the juniors. they got him down there to play U/16s i think.

Newcastle would have had the best number of juniors once. But in recent years the club has become just as mercinary as the Sydney clubs and now with Smith at the helm that is only getting worse. Funny thing is when we were mostly local we won two comps. Now we're struggling to get off the bottom of the ladder.

This thread raises the question: should the NRL look at some policies that rewards clubs that produce locals or helps them keep them? I think RL needs to keep this local element. The day we become like soccer or the NFL with few if any plateys in any given club from the area in which they play is the day we really lose our soul and become nothing more than a homogenised professional product.
