Lockyer accused of bar "tackle"

BRISBANE'S off-field woes have worsened with claims captain Darren Lockyer grabbed a hotel manager on a night out.
ABC TV played security footage on Wednesday allegedly depicting several Broncos players involved in drunken behaviour at Brisbane's Casablanca Cella Bar two weeks ago.

The club's manager Sarosh Mehta claimed the Broncos captain "semi tackled" a staff member outside the venue on September 6, the night after Broncos Coach Wayne Bennett's emotional farewell at Suncorp Stadium.

The network played footage of a patron wrapping his arms around a staff member's waist and pushing him.

"From what I hear from my manager, it was somewhat of a semi tackle, it was a bit of strong push," Mehta said.

However, it is impossible to identify the person involved in the incident from the footage, though Mehta told the network his staff had informed him it was the Broncos captain.

The incident is alleged to have occurred after several players drinking at the club took alcoholic beverages outside club, breaching the venue's liquor licence.

"The manager obviously doing the right thing as per out liquor act and licence conditions went over there and asked for them to be returned and he was just pushed aside," Mehta said.

Mehta warned players would face a zero tolerance policy at the club.

"If they act up be they Broncos, or be they men in the street they will definitely be banned," Mehta said.

Broncos CEO Bruno Cullen could not be reached for comment.

However, it is believed the club attempted to use legal channels to prevent the ABC from playing the footage.

The latest allegations come after Brisbane detectives had interviewed fellow Broncos Karmichael Hunt, Sam Thaiday and Darius Boyd over the alleged sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman last weekend.

What's next?

"Lockyer accused of stabbing cocktail onion with toothpick..."

Why do you feel the need to put a  after your lame attempts at joke? Are you that insecure?

The story that you came up with sarcasm and irony has no relevance to this case. If lockyer was out blind drunk and decided to assault a bar manager, it is a serious thing when you consider the Broncos apparent "hard" stance against drinking and off-field activity.

You're an idiot.

It also sounds like a vicious, life endangering assault.

I thought the Broncs were the NRL's leading light on zero tolerance on players drunken behaviour? Seems thats all changed when your in the semi finals. I guess they will deal with it after the season is over. Any other club did that this year and the howling would have been rife. I guess when your State Government appears to close ranks around your team it makes it easier to look sqeeky clean as a club until the season is over.

Doesn't do the game much good though and only makes RL look like it's full of players that have little morals or brains. Hardly role models

All thse incidents this year from players from various clubs have been major negatives for the code and do little to promote RL in a positive light.

As Derryn would say.......Shame RL players Shame

was there an assault charge laid?
a complaint laid?

no

sounds like all the bars in Brisbane are needing some free publicity - a free grab in the national news never hurt anyone did it?

I hear that Ben Hannant and PJ Marsh ate breakfast this morning. Expect that in The Daily Telegraph tomorrow.

Nothing to do with the semi-finals. If the same players were involved mid-year the Broncos still would have done jack sh*t. It's an absolute disgrace. Now they've shown their hand they must never ever come out and claim how extremely tough they are on player behaviour and how all the other teams are weak in comparison to them.

Lets hope every single Broncos sponsor drops the club. Then that might make them take serious issues more seriously.
