Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins will referee the 2016 Holden State of Origin II at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday, June 22.
General Manager of Officiating Tony Archer said Sutton and Cummins had officiated in the past five State of Origin matches and deserved to take charge in Game Two.

"I thought they both performed well in Game One and they’ve held their form in the NRL since then," Mr Archer said.

"They are the most proven referees at this level and they deserve to referee in Game Two. They are clearly the best officials for the job."
The match officials for the second Holden State of Origin match, on June 22, are:

Referee: Gerard Sutton
Assist Referee: Ben Cummins
Touch Judges: Brett Suttor, Nick Beashel
Senior Review Official: Bernard Sutton
Review Officials: Luke Patten, Ashley Klein
Standby Referee: Gavin Badger
Standby Touch Judge: Michael Wise.

Whether NSW get toweled up or not,at least the comedy relief in the officiating is sure to be Gold Plated Platinum.

NSW have won one of the past 7 penalty counts and they know they'll have to overcome the usual Suncorp influencing factor. But good sides can overcome that... thing is, it's hard for the Blues to call themselves a good side when the team has played a handful of decent games in the past 11 years.

I'm expecting the Blues defense to be far more opened. Of course, whatever happens the Blues will retort with the cry of "We was robbed".

Methinks for someone who supports a team that won on the back of a bullshit penalty, you are far too cocky. You should hope your Queensland team are not quite as complacent as you appear to be.

Back in 2000 NSW put 56 on your mob. Ryan Girdler scored 32 points. This is just as relevant to next week's game as the thrashing you cited.

That's right- and NSW had already wrapped up the series in that game as well. They certainly weren't complacent that night...

I couldn't give a shit about Laurie's opinion or comments after game 1.

However, how can they pick Sutton who gets rewarded for not being able to tell a simple knock back from a knock on. The mountain of wrong/missed calls for both sides on Monday night was almost a ridiculous as the 22 penalties awarded.

But he has "held [his] form in the NRL since then"...

Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems obvious that one game is more relevant because the side QLD named for next Wednesday is almost the same as the one that scored 52 points last year, whereas the Blues side from 2000 are to a man retired.

You have a point, but its not a valid one. You'll recall your Broncos conceded 44 against Manly late last season. It should have been 50 as the Eagles had another try wrongly called back near the death. It didn't seem to stop the Broncs not only making the GF, but also doing a number this season on the side that had flogged them.

Moral: Last year's result don't mean shit this year.

Took a while, but this ^ is the main reasoning for my posting.

Notice the absolute pig headedness coming from the ref's boss after a howler of a game such as this SHOULD have had this referee sacked, period.

One has to feel really uneasy when a SOO match official, can blunder his way through a game, yet hold his spot.

Gorden Tallis said straight away after the game that it wasn't the Sharks,or the Cows best performance, being that two clubs cancelled each other out.

But I have to totally disagree...not once did you hear from the shows panel, that the refs spoiled in what was supposed to be potentially the best match of the year.

They penalised the game to so many stand-stills,were they could have countered this by right at the very start of the match, and warned anyone that persisting penalties would have resulted in 10 minutes on the sideline. Not penalizing the players, taking 2 minutes to explain themselves and taking the continuity out of the contest.

Within a short period of time, the refs should send someone off for continually, and deliberately flouting the rules...no excuses. That'll put everyone on notice, and you get your free flowing game back again.
