Although if he were eligible to play origin, he'd play for Queensland wouldn't he? Isn't the origin criteria based on where you first represented your state, or in lieu of that, where you spent your last years of high school.

Is that the grounds used to determine that Inglis is a Maroon?

Yeah, he'd be a Queenslander. Pretty sure its who you played your first rep football for from the age of 15 I think. Thats how they got their claws into Inglis. I watched an interview with Benji a while back stating he cheered for the Maroons & if eligible for Origin considered himself a Queenslander.

Inglis was given a choice because he had played the Arrive Alive Cup in Newcastle before he played his first senior footy in the Qld Cup - or something like that. He sold his home-town and his state of origin up the river...

Just a thought maybe the term origin should be dropped from the SOO concept as it has become some what of a farce in terms of where you are from. The SOO concept was formed due to QLD being fed up with continually getting thumped by NSW sides packed with QLD players and rightly so,looks like history is repeating itself in the disguise of poaching...lol

Mr Raditch, it is actually 1st senior game after age 16.

The argument about eligibility was discussed on the radio after James Tamou was picked for Australia last week.

Some ‘experts’ were saying it’s easy, you play for the state you were born in or the country you were born in. That to me is crazy, Sterlo was born in Qld as his father was in the army, 2 months (I think it was) later, they moved to NSW and that is where he grew up, So should he have played for QLD or NSW?.

What about kids who migrate to Oz when they are under 5, are they expected to represent England for example? What about kids born overseas when their father is stationed o/s for his company?

For SOO I think it should be along the line of where you went to high school but there’s still a problem as so many clubs sign the kids now and move them to the city, so a kid from Townsville is recommended to the Roosters, he is allowed to finish years 7 to 9 in QLD and then finish years 10 to 12 in Sydney and gets his first run in the U20’s as a 17 year old, is he a Queenslander or a New South Welshman? Guarantee when growing up in Townsville he supported the Cowboys and QLD in the SOO.

But the new Commission is looking at it, just found this:

International eligibility laws, since 1998 state you can play for a country

*You were born in
*You have resided in for the past 3 years.

Players can change the country they represent after

*The next world cup
*3 years have passed since their last international

Whichever comes first.

Essentially, Brett Hodgson, Pat Richards, Ben Galea etc are now allowed to play test footy for England and if menzies stays in France for another year, he can play for the French test side.

f**king nonsense. Benji will essentially be eligible to play for Australia after the next world cup if he wanted to.

Thats up there with Gary Freeman calling for Travis Burns to be NSW 5/8 last year.

1. He's a utility player at best.
2. He's a Queenslander.

I don't miss that idiot.
