hey guys...just talking to a mate over msn and he wanted to know how you go about becoming a "lollie pop man" He explained it as those guys that stand there with the "stop", "slow" sign...road work thingy.

Anyone know where you go to apply? or the training etc involved?

assuming you've already had the labotomy, you need to do a course, most of which consists of OH&S stuff

your local council and/or the RTA are the people to ask

they normally put you through the acreditation course before you start work

"Lollypop men" over in the mines in WA are getting upwards of 70 grand. I wouldnt say no to that cash, just load up an iPod, get a comfortable pair of socks and you are set.

His friend is interested in being a stop go man at roadworks on normal roads. How much do they earn?

My company uses subcontracts traffic control all the time. The correct title is "traffic controller" and you can earn anything from 12-25 an hour, more on weekends.

Best to apply with actual traffic control companies, but RTA do assessments required to become qualified.

There are a lot of companies out there, plenty of cowboys. I'd make sure your friend carefully selects which one to work for. It can be a very dangerous job if not done correctly.

If its in NSW, PM me and I can suggest a few companies for you.

you get payed on off rates.

In an 8 hour day you don't actually spend 8 hours standing there with a sign.

I think you dosometihng like 2 hour shifts. You get paid more while your on the sign, and slightly less for the 4 hours your not on the sign.

You've still gotta stand in the sun in 45+ degrees though.
