Long Term Eels

Interresting to read some peoples thoughts on John Morris. He's been a country rep player, yet some people think he is no great assett.

It got me thinking, who shoulf we sign up long term. We signed Witty up for 4 years and let him go after one. We signed Burty up long term, and quite frankly he has been dissapointing.

There is no contract long enough to sign Hindy.

Also we let Kidwell and Chan go, who are now Kiwi rep players, but I would not have hung onto them. Makes me think, just because they are rep players, doesn't mean they are worth holding onto.

Alot of people were sad to see Hopkins and Stapo leave, but are they the type of players who will help us win a GF, or just a player that we should hang onto for depth.

IMO our long term Eels of this current bunch should be:

Wade
Guru
Tahu
Wags
Hindy
Caylo
Afa
Morrison

Not sure, but need to see more of:

Ash (when fit)
Cannings
Mateo
Tim Smith
Riddell

Just wondering what you guys think

If you had the chance, who would you sign up long term ?

long term contracts and contracts in general mean very little in the NRL anymore, particularly at our club

Yeah, contracts carry very little meaning anymore if a player wants to leave they will find a way.

but if contracts did actually mean anything then I'd like to see obviously the likes of Hindy, Morro etc signed up long term but also a few of the youngsters mainly

Tim & Ben Smith
Jack Afamasaga
Blake Green
Feleti Mateo

and once they play a little more 1st grade then some others may join that list like
Brett Anderson
John Williams
Matt Gruska (heard that he may be gone this year??)
Weller Hauraki
Ben & Zeb Taia
Joel Reddy

Everyone talks about this Gruska but when Ive watch the lower grades he has never stood out. Heard he was off to Knights or something. It mightve been West Tigers :?

Brett Anderson and JoeL Reddy are a must. I didn't rate Joel earlier on but I must admit he won over me with some of his performances very tough boy.

Very attacking fullback. I reckon he would be better if he bulked up a bit better.

With any luck it is a positive wink, that Hendy will be offered/sign a long term deal.

He looks it but he is very strong. Busted a few tackles during the Blacktown run to the Arrive Alive Cup final. Can play centre really well but I think he is more suited to 5/8 - much like a former Eel....

sorry guys, I probably should have said, lets assume that contracts are actually binding.

I agree that they are not worth much nowdays
