Is there much more he needs to do than pick the right players in their normal positions? He could well do a Mal here - just got to pick the team, front the media and deliver a pre-match speech.

There are definitely other candidates I would've picked, but the respective squads 2013-17 and the respective squads this time around are a whole world of difference.

QLD squad back then was great, but NSW kept picking the same shit players with the aim of defending their way to a win. NSW didn't have the balls to pick a team that wasn't centred around dour forwards - Gallen, Bird, Woods, Jackson, Pearce and Farrah.
