It would be like Tigers fans attacking Benji because he played at other clubs.

I tend to still look fondly upon them, except when they play Penrith.

Although I do recall seeing this on one occasion happening.

Many years ago Preston Campbell coming back to Penrith in a Titians jersey for the first time. It would have been about 2005 or 6.

Many in the crowd stood as one to acknowledge who and what he did for the Penrith club. (this happened when the Titians team came out for warm up)
It was like Penrith saying a very large thank you, for all of your efforts through the years, in our jersey.

I've not been to games since 2020, (because of my health). But I wouldn't be shocked to see similar when Fish or Luai come back to play.

Obviously once the game started, Campbell was seen as the enemy.

Also you will always get one or two fools, who carry on like pork chops when a player leaves, as per te news ltd article.

I always wish an ex player well if they put in in our jersey and dont bag the club on the way out. I was really happy to see Luke Garner win a comp and love seeing Harry Grant having success. I was surprised that Brooks was booed at Lecihhardt, however being at the ground it was only a small section of the crowd, just a very vocal small section. I definitely didnt boo the guy.

I have no doubt that 95% of Penrith fans wish Jarome well, however it wouldn't surprise me if deep down a lot of them would take some sense of delight if he did stink it up here and be looked on a failure. I also dont think for a second that if something as far fetched as the Tigers making the finals and Penrith not happens in a couple of years time that Penrith fans will be cheering him on, particularly if the media makes a massive deal about it. Theres not anything wrong with that, its human nature. I absolutely hated watching Tedesco win comps in 19/20 and I never realy had anything against the guy.

Prob not a popular adage amoungst those on here including the naturally nice people and those trying to be. Ofcourse in some many quarters a real sports fan hates their ex player as soon they walk out the door.. Nothing wrong with that. After all, this is your sports team! we’re talking about. It’s not meant to be for the feint hearted

Being forced to leave I suppose gets them off the hook but that’s not black and white either.. and it’s still tending towards the nice guy angle not a true sports fan …I think if they are fit and strong physically and mentally and voluntarily leave then they are fair targets..those forced out I’m guessing are let off the hook.. But here’s the thing they are all wearing another teams jersey.. taking it to the extreme, the consequences for the same “crime” in gangs can be loss of life. . Why is that?

This is how I view it but I'd add money to the context of being forced out. Expecting for instance Luai to lose 500k per year to play for Penrith is to me stupid.

I agree with a lot of what you say Vic.
The way I see it, most fans pay their hard earned dollar to let go of the emotions at the game, on forums, and pubs and even at home watching television.
Some of their ranting is pety and somewhat childish but whatever floats their boat.
As far as their bagging players go, there is a line not to be crossed, and that includes bagging family, religion, gender preferences and physical abuse etc.
I've been known to have booed a player after a few.
I used to back myself back in the day but now if I'm in trouble I resort to throwing my defibrillator at my nemesis :)

The following article certainly raised my eyebrows. Coming from one of the most astute backs in the NRL era, Billy Slater has an interesting prediction about Jarome Luai.

Billy Slaters take on Jarome Luai...
Despite the fact he will almost certainly be in the No. 7 jersey for the Tigers’ Round 1 clash against the Knights, Slater predicts on the field he will be deployed as a five-eighth, with Galvin stepping into the halfback role.

Agree, I just posted it on the 2025 season thread. pretty interesting coming from him.

If they could swap the roles around during a game, we would nearly be unstoppable.

Well, the way I see it, they will both play first or second receiver, either side of the ruck, often rotating which will make it hard to defend against.
Lachlan is well known now and clubs will target him so having Jarome there will be a perfect foil.
Both have a good grubber and both can run out wider if necessary. Then you have Api directing traffic in the middle.

I threw that same what if/ maybe an idea out there a few months ago and got howled down :) what's Billy Slater got that I ain't got?? ( apart from credibility...experience and success)....oh...and knowing what he's talking about!
