If I were a West Tigers fan I really don’t know whether I would be excited by signing Jerome Luai or really concerned by the money and length of the deal.

More click bate from Riccio and Read concerning David Klemmer and his future.

I said a month ago there would be clubs offering Luai over a mil a year. I mentioned the Tigers and the Dogs as possible homes. 2 posters disagreed with me. One even said a Mil won't come from a Sydney club.
Now here we are.

@age.s called the Tigers as a possible home a month ago. Credit to him.
Wasnt much of a deduction. I don't usually get good oil but that was an exception.

From what I've heard it's mostly business, but there is an element of wanting to prove himself in a different context. No hard feelings for the club though.

You can count on one hand, How many times such moves have worked.

Huge risk with him, especially being so unlikeble. Limits off field earnings in a rubbish team

Ive said this too, i knew if romey was looking to go, they'd be clubs offering stupid money to get a 3 time premiership half, there isnt enough quality halves, let alone one thats from the current winning 3peat club,
This should be 1.5 million a year, due to where he is from, if mitch moses is the poster boy for overpriced marquee halves, jerome should be a steal at 1.5mil

Jarome has the best resume of any half currently active who's name doesn't finish with 'Eary.

Large offers beyond our perceived value were inevitable.

Take the odds to it, even if Luai is a 75% chance of failing that is still better than the odds of finding and developing a quality first grade half during his contract term. IMO he's 50/50 to succeed outside the Penrith system.

Brisbane with all their resources and geographical advantage needed to go get a busted Adam Reynolds. If the richest and most powerful club in the game needs to roll the dice on a playmaker it makes sense a struggling club will leap at the chance to get a successful player.

Cows and the CHAD!!! is another great example
If anything Luai will expose the slackers in the WT setup, he isn't looking to lose games coz the backrower misses his assignment

I get the money angle and being top half. But I don't get the club and coach.
The club is a rabble and have appointed a recently retired favourite son as coach. He might have a good brain and be well liked, but the fact is he has very limited coaching experience. 1 year as an assistant. No lower grade coaching at all.
Most rookie coach's. Have some form of an apprenticeship before they move up the ranks. They don't get FG positions handed to them like Benji has.
It is a big gamble.

More Burton than Chad about him, particularly with a rookie coach in Benji.

This time last year Benj didn't even have his coaching certificate

That is the thing. Out of the dud clubs Dragons are better setup with Flanno as coach.

It has trainwreck all over it

That's not a form guide to go off, phillip gould started coaching in '88 won it straight away went to Penrith and made GFs in 90 and won in 91, rookie dont mean shit, Andrew webster just made top4 first year

Gould is the exception to the rule. His success came instantly with little coaching experience before his appointment

Most rookies have to do the hard yards of experience.

Webster has been an assistant coach as far back as 2006 for three different clubs. As well as a lower grade coach. And a stint as caretaker coach.
He served his long apprenticeship and good luck to him.
Benji is clearly a big roll of the dice.
Either way it is not our problem.

Gus was in days of Part Time.

You do realise Andrew Webster was caretaker coach at the Tigers before Ivan?

Then fell back into being a lower grade/Assistant coach, giving him an apprenticeship.

As all Rookie NRL coaches have. Benji was in the media one day, head coach the next

Correct.

Benji should of been made NSW Cup coach then into FG. It is dumb but nothing new under Pascoe

My biggest concern if we lose Luai is his defence. It's vastly under rated. I think Laurie will be first shot at getting the 6, in attack I'm not too worried, maybe even a little excited to see what he offers, but his D will need some serious work.

Also we will find out how much impact he really has on the culture of the place.

I am in the keep Romey corner but wonder if he left in 2025, if we could somehow snag AFB with his money.

Would be nice having Fish and AFB starting and Leota replacing either.

We could almost run with Murraymob as 5/8 with the momentum those 3 would provide.
