Luke Lewis shows what he can do!

Did anyone else watch the Panthers v Dogs match last night with Luke Lewis at 1/2 back?

I thought his performance showed his class and ability to adapt to whatever role is required of him.

He showed that he is far from a spent force and we have ourselves a quality player who can play Centre, Second Row, Five Eight or Half at the drop of a hat.

Astute purchase from our recruitment team and i'm looking forward to one or two more class players at the right price joining the ranks for next season and beyond to play alongside our young guns and the sky is the limit for the Mighty Red and Greens.

You realise you didn't get him "at the right price"...you paid about $100k more than Penrith offered.

I agree with you rabbit4eva. We may have paid some more for him but his adaptability to positional changes will ensure that he is an asset to the bunnies. Yes he has suffered some injuries, however he has some fair first grade experience for a young age...The experience and youthfulness combined will ensure that when we have sudden setbacks such as the "wing incident" were able to look at both experience and youth in the form of Lewis to lead...Not too mention a last minute position change to where we may be lacking at that particular time...

From what I saw of that game, Lewis was very good. I didn't know his kicking game was as good as it appeared on Saturday. He just kept rolling the ball into the bottom right corner every set and it strangled the Dogs.

Good asset.

If he continues to play like he did on the weekend for Panthers, I think that many will think we paid unders by the end of the year. He is quickly proving himself to be one of the most versatile players in the NRL.

Lewis had a good game for the Panthers... but the Dogs were very poor and any player could have looked great.

He is a handy utility player, and is an asset to have when you suffer injuries in positions you have little depth in. Other then his utility value though, I don't think the Panthers will miss him in the slightest. Definitely not at the price the Souths paid for him.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter how bad the Dogs were, he still had to have the skill to put the ball in the corner over and over again. That impressed me.

He had a solid kicking game, but the tactics we used in kicking were very basic and only worked well because of the opposition.

Hes an otherwise almost elite player who plays at rep level.

Not too many more of the Panther side can claim such honours.

A bit of sour grapes from them, they should be happy, they are playing pretty good footy at the moment.

But how they let Wallace go is incomprehensible.

Sour grapes? Luke Lewis has been unable to make a jersey his own in the past 2 years. We have had younger and better centre and wingers come through and force him to become a utility player just to keep a first grade jersey, and he has done a great job. But he isn't worth the cash that has been thrown at him from the Souths.

As for calling him an elite player... wtf?

With respect mx, I know youre a good judge of footballers but you seem a little bit less settled over here today.

He plays rep footy and almost always makes a good account of himself.

He is rock solid in both attack and defence. He is clever too.

The panthers didnt think young Wallace was worth paying overs for. Sadly, theyve been licking their wounds ever since.

Lewis is a player of considerable calibre and he will continue to shine in the red and green.

Almost elite? , yes, I stand by that. Hes no average mutt.

Personally, i just found it funny that a solid performance against a very average Bulldogs side had Souths fans thinking it justifies him being paid as if he were some sort of Origin superstar.

I love how all these Panthers fans think that South's were the only club chasing him! He was approached by the Dogs and the Storm.
As for what we will pay him, can anyone actually confirm that what has been mentioned in the media is what is on his contract? Look at Tupou's reported sign on price... Depending on which paper you read, it varied by about 150k. Everyone always assumes that we pay overs just because we are South Sydney and this includes the media. I have it on very good authority that what he will receive is no-where near what was reported in the media and he was actually offered only a little more then what Penrith offered. Apparently we sat just above the offer that the Bulldogs made, which was slightly more than the Panthers and Storm. He is coming to the Bunnies for about 30k a year more than what the Panthers offered him.

That in itself its something we cannot do,and have not been able to do for years.:x We have not had prominent kicker in general play since Darrell Trindall in 1999.

I'm not sure where your information is coming from. This is from Luke Lewis himself:

"I always wanted to stay at Penrith, but I don't think it's going to happen, I can't see it happening with what I've been offered there," said Lewis, who has played three matches for NSW and went on the 2003 Kangaroo Tour.

"It's sort of a decision I've had to make now to secure my future and do the best thing for my football.

"I'm actually looking forward to going out now and playing my heart out for Penrith, they've been so good to me and I've just got to do what I've got to do."

Souths did well to beat the Doggies though. Looks like they're going to be stuck with Brett Kimmorley. :p Even on a bad day Lewis is a better player then him.

Lol at the dowplaying of Luke Lewis leaving the Panthers, he has been probably your best all season.

he is your best player imo by a mile apart from civo, and probably been your best all season, Lewis has great defence, great attack, and has versatility to boot.

who else in your team can match that discription ?.

both your halves have woeful defence, Jennings has been dissapointing this year, Civo is well past his best, but still a solid player but has nothing on what Lewis had to offer in the long-term future at your club, after all he is only 24.

bad decision to let him go.

Brad Tighe seems to be going well at the Panthers.

I just hope he is coming to Souths to play centre. He fills in well as a 5/8 or back rower but we lack class out wide,Lewis needs to play centre for us otherwise its not a good signing.
