MacDougall rejects Knights match payment offer

So much for that loyalty he was offering his services for a few weeks ago.

Talks went through the night last night, no word as of yet. Brett Keeble is on 2HD right now letting us know what's in the Herald since the printers broke down once again last night.

Apparently there was a "breakthrough" in the O'Davis contract negotiations. But no official word either way.

OK, so the news that went to the printers last night was that there was a stall in negotiations, but the word this morning is that last night's talks put everything back on track and MacDougall has agreed to terms with the Knights.

All that needs to be done is make it official.

Top stuff.
I heard O'Davis on the radio this morning saying he was 70-30 percent likely to stay as well, and that he wants to stay.

that's good news for the knights!

We need doogs !

We also need him to have a blinder tomorrow after all the late casualties in the backline

We do, but if Warriors do beat Wests tonight and the Storm do beat Manly, it will make no difference if the Knights win or lose, so if he is struggling with an injury at all (which I did hear early this week) it would be a good idea to rest him. However if Wests win and/or Manly smash the Storm moving up the ladder to 5th or 6th wouldn't be to bad a thing to happen.

Wow, that is wonderful news. Go Mad Dog :D

It is also pleasing that Robbie O'Davis also wants to stay with us next year as well. So it looks like we will be retaining both of them after all ;-)

I can relate to that MC DUI. Within the space of two posts the story has changed.

I haven't heard anything officially, but from what I gather here and from my recollections of MacDougall's stance a few weeks ago - if they offer him match payments then he'll sign up.

It probably isn't that simple, but the Knights would be fairly naive to think that they'll get a better deal than that for a quality backline player like MacDougall. Fully fit, i.e. playing 20-25 games a year, he is worth upwards of $200,000, so to get him as cheap as chips is a bargain of the highest order.

I'm quitely confident O'Davis will sign up too - this is purely my opinion, I just think he would want to finish his career with Newcastle on a brighter note than to leave because of contract issues. It would be inappropriate to have him decide not to leave after the final home game tomorrow - a warm and joyful send-off at home would be best (send-off being the term used for a "glorious farewell" and not "punishment for unforgiveable crimes on the sporting field")

Sorry about the confusion. The coverage this morning on 2HD was pretty ordinary. The first talk on the subject had him gone, but later they updated that saying that talks last night were successful and he was staying.

Especially of you listen to radio stations for info.

Not even a change of forum has changed my care factor on Doogs & Robbie, it's still ZERO. ;-)

Yeah, who could forget the confusion you had with one of my posts?

Now, what you two old boilers don't seem to notice is that the difference between the two first posts wasn't just their content, but about an hours worth of developments.

From what I gather, things are progressing well for both MacDougall and O'Davis - apparently O'Davis was still waiting and hoping for a better offer, but is resigned (not re-signed) to the fact that he may have to accept the Knights first/final offer.

MacDougall is, by most accounts, ready to start cracking out the Parker to put the black squiggle on the piece of papyrus. Apparently the Knights whipped out the old calculators the other night to see what they could do - it's all progressing well from the Herald's account apparently.

The Herald reports that MacDougall and his manager wanted to explain to the two clubs that also offered a contract (Souths and Sharks?) his reasons for not accepting their respective offers - prior to announcing his intention to stay with the Knights - that's the story I've read.
