MacKay move a shock to Tahs

As a Waratahs supporter, and a Lachlan MacKay fan,
I was finally starting to believe that our number 10
problems were getting sorted out.....

I'm disappointed that he has chosen to go to WA,
And not looking forward to the “Band-Aid” style
Approach to the selection of fly-halves, as Waratahs fans have
Seen in the past.

What are the Tahs options??

I saw Ewan interviewed about the move and he seemed very shocked and dissapointed at him leaving.

I think he may have been the answer but I can hardly blame him for going, he was promised the No 10 in WA and NSW have been chasing Johns, Anasta + others. Good luck to him, hope he goes well overthere.

It sounds like Perth are doing well at getting top playes from the other teams. Have they got a list out of the other players on their roster ?

So far they have Brendan Cannon, Nathan Sharpe, David Pusey and Lachlan MacKay.

I think Mackay made the right decision . The Waratah 5/8 position is usually not secure . Just ask the last four 5/8 who left .
In Perth he has got no pressure and no worries for at lease two years .

But the thing is mate that he was going to bring
the much needed stability to the team, that we have lacked
over the last couple of years......

If they spread the talented players around it will give more opportunity for the South Africa and Qld sides to win a game.
The RU will then open the talent pool up to include all RU players not just ones that can represent Aust.

I think those who are reconsidering-and this may be Tune's reasoning-is because some of them were under the impression that they'd be allowed to return home to the east coast to play club rugby after Super 14, but Rugby WA (and good on them for doing so) have told them they'll have to play for a club in Perth.

Anyway onto Mackay, no big loss IMO, I think Donnely is a better fly-half anyway. It was a very strange decision though, he's spent years in NSW age group teams, NSW 2nd XV's and then on the NSW bench, FINALLY cements a spot and then leaves.

But donnely has not proven himself a worthy Candidate,
and you have to admit that he has had plnety of chances.

Last years Super 12 South Africa tour of example.

I agree PW, he made the right choice. He has been signed with the Tahs for the last few years without being given an opportunity to show what he can do (albeit he did have some injuries).

They continually chased Johns and Anasta, what does that say to MacKay?

NSW wont find a long term No 10 till Kurtley Beale finished school. He will be our long term 5/8.

Time for us to go for Anasta - he could be brilliant at 10. Compared to the recent Waratah 10s, he's robust like Mackay, can distribute the ball better than Berne and as big a kicking game as Donnelly.

The Waratahs have enough former league players as it is ,Beale will be thrilled watching another leaguie get an easy path, whilst he has been nurtured at Joeys.
Whats wrong with Rogers at 10,leave Hewatt at fullback.Rogers would eat Anasta in all facets of the game.Rogers is faster than Anasta has a better step, safer hands and is a better defender.
BTW I am not a Dogs supporter.

As much as you like to mention your ex leagiue and former league players in almost every post on a rugby union thread .
There's nothing wrong with Anasta coming back to a sport he once played . Roger's does'nt want to play no 10 .
We can't see the future like you do Taipan so we will wait and see who's the better plyer out Anasta & Rogers .

Taipan,

1. Beale has played League at junior level as well as Union - so that throws your point out the window.
2. As good an attacking player as he is, he is tiny and he is only 15 or 16 so it will take years before he develops to the stage where he can play Super 14. OTOH Anasta has played for City, NSW and Australia at senior level in RL
3. Comparing Rogers and Anasta is like comparing apples and oranges. Rogers was tried at 10 and failed. He didn't direct the team around the park well enough, he is a runner not a playmaker and is suited to fullback, wing or outside centre at a pinch.

The decision came from no-where. I didn't even hear of speculation of him leaving, but it's disappointing of him to leave. Beale is atleast 2 years away from being a solution, and who knows what could happen to him in the next couple of years.

Either bring in Anasta or the Tah's will never have the class #10 needed to win the super 12.

Beale is only a little fella, I dont think we will see him till 2008 in the Tahs No 10 jumper so I think go after Anasta unless Rogers changes his mind and wants a crack. Although he is very injury prone so it might not be a good idea.

Hope the rumours that Beale does want to play Union and not league are true. he is the best youngster I have seen play union.
