He doesn't go missing all that often.

On a side note anyone remember in 03? or 04? a year Joey was out for a big chunk at least, when we were playing Canberra at Bruce and Doogs tackled Schif about 20m out from the Raiders line next thing he's scored off a smooth as silk one on one strip?

Just thought about that, quality Mad Dog.
Over his career he's averaged about 9 games a year. He only turned out for us in his last year here when threatened with the sack (he'd spent the year on the sideline with some mystery injury (knee i think) then miraculously was on the field the following week after supposedly being unable to walk the week before) Then to top it off begged for a new incentive contract for the following year, the Knights gave him one, and he was going to get back to them. Then he flew off on holidays overseas, while his manager signed him up with Souths. McDougall was quoted as saying that he wanted to rebuild Souths and play with his brother there. So that is why I'm not that impressed with the signing, Doogs has been like that his whole career, I somehow don't believe he'll be changing at this stage of his life. He's the same bloke that was injured every year until rep stuff came around, he'd recover, play SOO, then imediately be injured again until the next rep game. He'll be a wasted effort IMO. It's a pretty poor state of affairs when he becomes our star recruit for the year FFS.

I meant missing in presence while on the field, as it was touched on by someone else. I'm well aware of Doog's play when I feel like it attitude, but he's on an incentive contract, and I'd imagine that'd be enough to make him play.

I remember that one Nuffy, god I used to love the Doogs versus Wendell wing battles. The head stomping was all class too.

Oh yes, no argument from me there, when Doogs was playing there was none better, awesome winger/centre/fullback. If he plays twenty games like that next year I'll happily eat my words.

Its an ok signing. Better than no one
.

With all respects-Sorry NO WRONG!!!!!!!
That is exactly the attitude of the inept management we have. We accept mediocrity. I cannot be positive about this signing when I look at the facts. He is 31, injury prone, some of these injuries very "suspect" to say the least, the club have been very tolerant and supportive of him and his pursuits including studying, AND, he dogged the Knights when he left pulling at the heart-strings of the public by promotiong that he wanted to stay at the Knights and he was loyal blah blah making the Knights out to be the baddies whilst at the same time he snuck away in the cover of night to chase the money and sign at Souths. I won't slander him in a public forum but let say my opinion is not very favourable. Add to this, it shows how incapabale our management are. If a player of this calibre is the best we can do then I am afraid with the clubs management we are on a road to nowhere.:x

I'm fine with the signing. he may not be the old Doogs that we used to know but he can still get the job done. We should've targetted the younger one but realistically it is better than nothing. We won't be paying him much if he does get injured and we simply need him to fill the void left by departing Carney and Quinn.

What I don't understand is why we have released Gidley. MacDougall is a good player but he is no Gidley. I thought we were only going to let him go if we signed a replacement for him. If management thinks that Macdougall is a suitable replacement for Gidley they must be dreaming.

I really hope I outrageously wrong because Doogs was one of my favourite players and let's hope he can get back to his best.

Doogs is a great player when he plays. If we're only paying him WHEN he plays then I am all for singing him. He will add experience and skill to our backline which will be lacking in the abscense of Quinn, Carney and especially Matt Gildey.

Letting Gids go is a mistake, but as they said, he has been as loyal a servant as you can get, and this deal sets him up for life, so more power to him. I just hope we can give him the sendoff he deserves because he has been a LEGEND for this club IMO.

It's hard to know what to think of this.
Whilst it's definately not the signing I was hoping for a few months ago, it has got to the poit of desperation now where I think we really need him. Our backline depth was looking outrageously thin.

So, since it's incentive based, I'm glad he has signed now. But management is still a joke for letting it get to this point where we are relieved to be signing a 32 year old injury prone player with an attitude problem.

There were so many better options that we missed. However, if he plays 20 games and is absolutely ripping them apart like he can, then he still has the potential to be one of the most lethal players in the comp.

I wouldn't have minded if Luke came as well.

Or heaven forbid, we signed Tame Topou from the Broncos.

I saw him close up when he run over Seage this year and thats what we need on the wing!

MacDougall heads back home
July 21, 2006

FORMER Test winger Adam MacDougall will return to Newcastle next NRL season with the disgruntled South Sydney star unable to resist the constant badgering of Knights skipper Andrew Johns.

MacDougall agreed to a two-year deal with the Knights and will return to the club at which he won two NRL premierships after an unhappy three-year stint at the Rabbitohs.

The 31-year-old said persuasive phone calls from Johns and several other of his former Knights had tipped the scales in their favour after he had also been weighing up an offer from league leader Melbourne.

"Having players like Andrew Johns expressing their desire to play with you once again, it's pretty flattering," MacDougall said.

"We're friends off the field. You win two premierships with a bloke, you manage to get a special connection there.

"At least I know going back there and running out with these guys they definitely want me playing with them."

MacDougall admitted had he had his time again he would never have left the Knights at the end of the 2003 season.

"Deep, deep down I've always regretted leaving the club. In hindsight, I wish I didn't leave but I did. I decided to go and play with my brother which was a great experience," MacDougall said.

"It's a great way to finish my career, a great opportunity. I don't know how many players get to go back and finish their career at the club they started."

Unfortunately for MacDougall, a deal to play out the remainder of this season with Super League club Hull before heading to Newcastle broke down today.

Well, he's a non-drinker so that should make Brian happy.

That'd be the Roosters wouldn't it??

So can we have him now? ;-)

I'm willing to give a bloke a go, but incentive based contract or not we want game time out of Doog's. We'll have a very young backline next year and having a centre in and out like (well you know) would be very disruptive to our cohesion.

I just hope that the right Doog's turn's up to play and not the one that's been wearing red and green the last few years.
