Bellamy has been ever so lucky to have Smith and Cronk, who have never really been injured. Slater missed two seasons but he's now back and firing.

You only need to look at the one time Bellamy missed Smith for a key game and they lost 40-0.

You are reinforcing my point! They miss a key player and they are going to suffer because the rest of their team is composed of solid squad players, like that of other teams.

Slater amazing return gives me hope about GI's return
Same. I hope he comes back fireing. I was devastated when he was injured but then I actually thought about it.

There's no doubt he was in dire need of a very long rest, he'll get that this year so I really hope he comes back fresh as like Slater has done.

Fairly safe to say we are on a downward spiral under Maguire
regular season results with madge coaching
2012- 16 wins 8 losses
2013- 18 wins 6 losses
2014 - 15 wins 9 losses
2015 - 13 wins 11 losses
2016 - 9 wins 15 losses
2017 - 3 wins 6 losses
I don't believe he can arrest this slide and its time to move on .
Maybe someone could investigate a Cronk & Bellamy swap for Reynolds and Maguire
As I stated previously and the stats you cite confirm thus: Maguire is a GOOD COACH FOR A SHORT PERIOD 3-4 years and then he is DONE at that club. Players are tired of his single minded approach and style of play if we can call it that. More FLOGGINGS will surely follow before Crowe accepts this FACT.

What if Madge is not the problem but poor recruitment is. What if we go back to what worked in 2013-14. Sign players similar to Walker, Auva'a, Te'o, Tuqiri, Mcqueen, Luke/Koroisau?

The coach has the biggest say when it comes to the recruitment of the NRL squad.

As others have mentioned on here it's not solely Madge's fault that Souths are where they are, blame has to be put on the senior players as well as the hierarchy within the club.

There is a very long list of both half-backs and hookers that have left the club. Yes you are always gonna get players leave for various reasons but for me a lot have left due to the short-sightedness of the club thinking certain players were surplus to requirement and this comes from those in-charge not just the coach.

Madge can only coach/manage those players that are given to him, having said that to keep putting Talakai on the pitch for 80 minutes week after week is a massive mistake and to play to a very similar game-plan week in week out is not acceptable.

Souths are in dire need of some hard running, skilful back-rowers in the mould of dare I say it Glen Stewart (but without the problems he brought to the club) or a Luke Lewis to give the opposing defences something to worry about because it's so predictable on the second and third play of the balls to where the ball is going.

For me the following players need to be shipped out..... GI (knackered), either one of the Burgess Twins (living off a reputation) and Kyle Turner (decent player but never reached the heights as expected)

This would give the remainder of the team the kick up the backside that is needed and to show that no one is safe from being shown the door and also free up a lot of cash!

If we sign a couple of (very decent player makers and a back-up hooker for Cook) over the next few months, to then start training with the squad in November, I would then give Madge until R5 or R6 and if we are still playing the predictable 4-5 hit-ups and then kick, then I think he (Madge) should then be replaced.

All this talk about greg inglis being over the hill is ridiclous. He was our best player in 2015, he tried his heart out in the first 10 or so weeks off 2016. When there was obvious problems in our team it was him trying to take hit ups like a prop to get our team going that led to his apperent poor form. When put in the australian and queensland teams and focusing on his own game he was again great. Due to origin and suspension he wasn't there when we went on our losing streak, but when he came back into fullback, and with everyone pulling their weight again, he was our best as we won 4 in a row and pushed storm to golden point.
His acl injury was a freak accident that could happen to any player.
Come round 1 next yeat he'll have just turned 31. To put things in perspective cronk, smith, Thurston and Slater are all coming up on their 34th birthdays, minichiello was 33 when he captained a premiership and was 34 when he retired, and inglis is only 6 months older then darius boyd.

Forget his age, he has played a number of seasons overweight and it has ruined his knees.

A 1st grade team will always find a posse in the side for GI--even if it's on the wing, at lock or 2nd row.

Champions seem to have a habit of bouncing back---he will have 12 mths to recover-----he's a champ;one gives a champ,at the least,a chance to prove himself!!

Agreed. It was a freak injury and he's one of the best players to ever play the game.

Sorry, I am not saying he is done. I am just saying you cant expect GI to play at an elite level for as long as guys like Cronk, Thurston etc

He may well play into his mid thirties but he will struggle with his knees for the rest of his career, the damage has been done. He already had issues with his knees and know a full blown tear...he will not be the same GI when he comes back next year, maybe he will show flashes but week to week he is going to struggle to play at an elite level.

Even Minichello who took great care of himself during his career was a shell of himself at 30 due to the injuries. He managed to play well into his thirties off the back of a freakish dedication to his training and health(and the fact he accepted a lesser role) but by 30 he was nowhere near the player he had been in his prime.

His ability to return will obviously depend on his knee/s!!

I remember Big Artie saying that GI could become one of the games very good backrowers in his senior years----we badly need a ball-playing forward!!

Surely... Maguire has been IN on all player movements?? As The Legendary Bill PARCELLS stated: " If you want me to coach I need to choose the groceries [i.e PLAYERS] to cook the meal". NO HEAD COACH WORTH ANYTHING WOULD AGREE TO A ROSTER THAT HE DISAGREES WITH.

Inglis does NOT have Slater's championship and WARRIOR mentality. Why do you think Bellamy offloaded Inglis and kept the others BIG THREE?? Why didn't Bellamy KEEP INGLIS and offload say Slater??? More Red Flags around Inglis???
