Taking the 3 game ban or ringing Ryles up 24hrs before the Melbourne game telling him he wasn't playing with a sore back.

I bet he’s not regretting his ridiculous 600k 4 year deal though. A very smart little bird did warn us about all these 4 year deals were going to bite the club on the arse.

On paper matching up the 2 sides we have probably got more skill in the halves but that's about it.
Besides, it's a Magic Round game and we aren't the ref's or NRL's golden boys so I don't expect any luck to go our way.
Happy to be proven wrong at full-time though.

Looking at our selected team for Magic Round I can see the beginnings of a great team, going forward. I know we rarely do well in Magic Round but I am sensing progress under the Ryles regime. My only concern going into this game is which Eels player(s) will get binned. Is there a betting market on who gets time in the bin now?

I like Guymer always thought he was more of a second rower to a middle. Though I assume Ryles has him in the middle for experience as out wide you need to be solid in defence.

I still think Matto will come in at 13 Williams to second row Guymer to bench.

We won't win if our 11 ,12, 13 & 16 don't man up and play like hungry young in-your-face mobile NRL players.

Yep, we need people bringing their peak efforts each week - otherwise we will get too easily rolled by most packs/able playmakers.

If Moses kicks long, our middle works hard in defence and our outside backs do the tough stuff out of our own end well then we’ll be competitive. The panthers recipe of the last few years.
Interested to see how Guymer goes next to Moses. Hopefully works hard in defence and runs good lines.
There’s no way Matto isn’t playing well enough to be in the 17, must be other factors at play

Matto took the ban so he didn't lose $4K, and he's getting paid the same whether he is selected in Cup or NRL. So I reckon he has no regrets about either.

But with Guymer returning from injury/weeks off to land the spot in front of Matterson, and with Matterson so low in the pecking order to not even make the bench, I think it's clear Ryles has made up his mind.

Pity we're stuck with Matterson's PO to extend, from the BA days...

Guymer was moving into a middle role all last year, along with his debut when he played middle. Ryles has reversed that playing him in both positions.

I wouId be surprised if Matterson comes in with Guymer benched. However there is a chance I reckon Guymer is ruled out (injured) and Matterson comes in.

What was Kautoga like in lower grades? Was there something about him that indicated significant upside?
I’m just not seeing much from him atm that makes me think he’s a back rower that is going to be high impact or reliable worker.

Matterson’s fate was sealed when he dogged his teammates sitting on the bench for a month, Brad the imbecile turned a blind eye, and returned to business as usual, any other coach on the planet would have given him an ultimatum, I’m glad his paying his pennants now, though the irony is he should be playing, though past selfish actions have scuppered his career, hence still letting his team down , from a fans point of view I’d like him to play because it helps his team, though morally he deserved what his copping and more!!

Agree. I was more impressed by Will Latu in pre-season.
