Ashamed to say I'm back from lovely North Sydney Oval without a Point to my name.

Flegg got hammered 30-16 and the score flattered them. Down 22-6 at half time, they were terrible.

Premiers was awful. We scored early and should have given the Bears a touch up, but simply refused to complete our sets. Let Black score a soft try on half time to give the Teddies a sniff and they wacked us early in the second. Our defence was abysmal and made Norths look like the side playing in green and gold the night before. We managed to drag back a couple to only go down 22-16, but realistically we were never in this from 5 minutes into the second half.

Tier fans will rejoice knowing Paterson played for us. Covell again was our best, with Kerr also showing his class.

At half time, after hearing the boys talk I was thinking, here we go, we'll score 20-30 easily this half. The whole team knew what they had been doing wrong and exactly what they had to do to win the game. They seemed fired up and ready to smash Benny Black in particular. For some reason, they never really seem to get started. They were abysmal in their line speed which was what cost them the game in the end. The Bears big units had too long to wind up and after a quick play-the-ball we were f**ked many a time.

This was an embarrassing game to watch as has been the whole start of the season. When I looked at the draw at the start of the year, I saw who we were up against for the first 10 rounds or so and thought we should win almost every one except for possibly the cougars who we are up against next week. If we do end up clicking it will probably be too late as we still havn't come up against any of the sides I think will be there come September. If we are playing like this against the Dragons, Raiders, Parra, Dogs etc, we are going to get smashed.

BTW, full credit to Isaac DeGois. This bloke is a deadset gun. His attack aside, his tackling today was exceptional. I lost count of the amount of big hits he put on today. Unlike Lincoln this bloke not only has a great tackling technique, but also a DEFENSIVE technique. He isn't caught out like Lincoln can find himself.

Oh, and I liked Richie Parker at 5/8 from the scrum

Who stood out as being overly good or bad?

And whats the deal with Plum on the bench? I've seen him listed there for 2-3 weeks now, is he injured or struggling for form?

I think he means apart form the obvious Brook. ;-) or perhaps just fishing for a bite?

Isaac's defence is BRILLIANT. On this basis, and his clever dummy half scoots I was just about ready to tell Beyers, his services we're required. How wrong was I? Isaac's distribution is appalling. Twice we gave up good position because of forward passes from dummy half (and that was only the ones picked up). He also threw some wild ones, that whilst they didn't cost us the ball, they killed the play. Get the kid in the 13 where he belongs. I'm not totally convince about Beyers distribution either. It might be time to call Rimmer back up from JB Cup if he's fit.

BTW Westie it was Sika not Richy at 5/8. But what a dumb play that is. If the big guy's at 5/8 you don't have to think too hard to know what's gonna happen. You put him at outside centre, and now you've got the defence wondering. It's a dumb play if you don't get him so wide that it's relying on a centre or winger to make a one on one.

Kerr looked good for us with the ball in hand, but didn't have enough runners (or any). He probed the line often and scored a very strong solo try. His last tackle kicking though wasn't up to scratch. We couldn't buy a result on the fifth. Heremaia isn't offering us too much. He doesn't do anything wrong, but doesn't spark anything either. Fulton was off at least half the game with an ankle problem. He played mostly as a 5/8 when on with Dalts and then Isaac at the back of the scrum. Always looked dangerous with the ball in hand. He's playing in the spot so just give him the jersey and be done with it Georgie.

Atkinson didn't excite or disappoint at the back. Still think Duff is better there. Duff went fine on the wing but he's a far better fullback. If Sheens wants to use him as a wing then he should just do it. It's not like he hasn't seen him on the flanks plenty last year when Macey and Clayton played at the back. Everyone knows he'd handle it fine, just stop stuffing us around Tim.

If Sheens is picking on form then Gravy is no closer to First Grade. McMahon went well in his first taste of this level this year. I don't know exactly what happened to Ken, but I'd really struggle to find a spot for him. Plum and Wes can't get a game at the moment. Weird if you ask me. Patto was Patto, But Parker and Sika looked good at times. Hope Wheeler and Cashy are back soon though.

I'd love to see something like:
1. Duffy, 2. Covell, 3. Kiro, 4. Collis, 5. Atkinson, 6. Fulton, 7. Kerr, 8. Parker, 9. Beyers (or Rimmer better), 10. Paterson (if I must), 11. Glassie, 12. Plum, 13. De Gois. With Viane, Teaupa, Matthews, Heremaia, Dalts etc on the bench.

gr8_1, I've been advocating questions since rnd 1. It's been obvious since the first game that something ain't right.

I was chatting with Warren and Leo Epifania came over. He at least recognises that there is an attitude problem throughout the club. We're just not competing. Some chances coming in Flegg for sure. With the Ball lads available, there are going to be cuts. Trimarchi is almost a certainty to start in the centres next week and Gallant, O'Donnell and Rysko will be coming up soon too I'd say.

The new guy Fotu is one huuuge mother. Showed some good things too, but it was his first league game in a long while so positioning and fitness showed. He was very reticent to get involved too much. Virtually made our first try, but mostly bludged in the centres. If he keeps that up he won't be any use to us, but if he gets fit and involved then he could be a gun. Leo was talking about maybe using him as a centre  , I hope he was joking. Said he had some pace (which is certainly true for a Prop), but the Bears exploited him bludging out in the centres when they went to the blind he was covering with a winger and simply out paced him on the outside to score the game clincher. He also hung back in defence. Wouldn't get in and make the first tackle. Came over the top and crunched plenty of guys who had been halted. That might, just might fly around the rucks, but he can't get away with that out wide. Certainly a promising project, but without question lots of work to do. Give him a No. 8 jersey, and tell him bluding won't be tolerated.

Ben Weir seems to be carrying a hernia. He should go and get it fixed. Sam Hoare is going good. I hate to see Brinky out of the side, but he's lost the 9 for sure. I don't think 13 is Water's spot, maybe Brinky should be there with Nath in the centres. Hammer is always the 100% man, but he hasn't the size to be in the front row. I'd leave that to Young, Paselio, and Fotu. Pritchard has been a massive disappointment. He should be one of the best in the grade, but he's doing zip. Mannion hasn't over impressed either.

The halves look better when they have runners. Roberts is the guy who can win a game on his own, but he makes so many blunders. We don't have any real options here though. Neither Ben or Borgie's kicking game instills fear in the opposition, but Roberts goal kicking seems to be improving greatly.

Without McMahon our outside backs look pretty ordinary. Don't know what happened to scissors. I'd play Dalts at the back, but the club doesn't seem to want him there, and he didn't go too well at centre yesterday it must be said. I just don't think Parkyns is as dangerous from there that Anthony would be.

I'd hope to see something like:
1. Dalton (or maybe McDonnell), 2. Gallant, 3. Trimarchi, 4. Waters or Soper, 5. McMahon, 6. Roberts, 7. Borg or Wisbey (gee didn't Brycey Poisel carve us up), 8. Young, 9. Hoare, 10. Auelua, 11. Hampson, 12. Mannion, 13. Brinkworth, with Rysko, Pritchard, Paselio, Ramirez, Parkyns, etc on the bench. Lots of work for these boys to do.

yeah Bon - he's due back next game. He isn't really in contention for Firsts at the moment.

With Fitzy likely to move back into five eight to cover the loss of Reynolds can we expect Covell in first for the Penrith game.Personally i was suprised Covell wasnt picked this week,Fitzy looked pretty out of place on the wing.

I reckon either Galea will go to 5/8 or Fitz to 5/8 and Duff Man to the wing.
