RFL is making some major changes re concussions. The biggest being no tackling for any age group U 10’s! Won’t go down well with the kids I’m sure.

ACTRU did that a couple decades ago to prevent injuries and make the sport more appealing to concerned parents. They might still be doing it IDK.

Anyway, they quickly found that the older kids were before you taught them full contact tackling techniques the more dangerous it was, and it actually increased the rate of injuries, particularly serious injuries, not decreased them.

Basically what we found was that when something went wrong in a tackle a 5 years old everybody bounces off each other then gets up laughing more often than not, when something goes wrong at 11, 12, 13, etc, it happens at speed and the full weight of up to and over 100kg kids could end up on the other's e.g. neck and spine...

So yeah, there's going to be some serious unforeseen consequences to that change.
