Major tactical error today cost us.

Sorry Mr Rapes.
this game was very important to us today & probably the biggest error of the day wasn't;

Merrits two disastrous knock ons.
Merrits drop kick out on the full.
merrrits bombed try to vagana
Sullys 2 knock ons.
The poor kicking game.
Simmos complete inability to make a tackle.

No.

The biggest mistake was the selection of the bench.
When we needed another forward, we had Aitken, who himself was only used for 7 minutes, when the game was lost.

FUGGIN WHY!!!!!!!!

Reefy, I tend to agree with you here mate.

In the NRL, is it really possible for any team to carry an fresh reserve on the bench ?

NO.

We could well have used another second rower or prop to rotate. Sully is our impact off the bench, 3 forwards and him are all we need.

I have to agree. Infact I said the exact same thing to my mate a few minutes ago. Not that it alone cost us the game, but it was a factor. Handling lost us the game. Merrit has to go though. He had an apalling game.

Merrit will be dropped... Raper wanted to kill him after the knock on.

McGoldrick is outstanding.

Worst Cronulla performance of the season and the Dragons only just won. I'd be worried if I was a dragons fan. When Cronulla dropped that much ball against even Souths they were put away.

Stevens needs to stop this passing shit. He got Iso, Aitken, Bickers smashed and it costs us a few times too.

Season isn't over though.

ummm did the sharks forget to attatch their hands today?

some of the attempts looked like they were playing after 15 beers.

It's a stupid decision. Aitken is only useful if he plays more than 25 minutes so Gallen can go to the forwards.

We should have won this game. We will rue the errors and it could cost us - just like Cowgirls and Rabbitohs.

Not sure I agree its a bench problem - I guess Aitken wasnt used because he wasnt needed - an injury to one of the halves and it would have been a different story.

All we needed to do to win today was to hold onto the ball. Simple, so you'd think for players on hundreds of thousands per year. I think three or four stains tries came from knock ons early in the tackle count close to our line

As I think I posted elsewhere, this game was a must win, and we didnt. That's it for 2004, but at least we improved on last year. We'll win a couple more with BK back on deck and there's probably a good chance of the 8 in 2005....

Or we could've thrown Aitken into the game with 30 min to go. Both teams were racking up the mistakes and a fresh player could have made a huge difference over the lat 1/2 hour.

But that didn't cost us the game - it was that f**king moron Hampstead. Take Withers try out of the game and a Sharks player tackled without the ball just after Zues's try and we most likely win. He was an absolute disgrace.

I think all 7 reasons contributed. Me? I'm starting to think 2005. Even if we scrape into the 8, I don't think we'll go much farther.
In the aftermatch interview, Barrett (MVP) said Saints played badly. If they played badly then the Sharks were atrocious.
I thought Saints' MVP today was between Barrett and Merritt.

That's it for 2004

Far from it. An upset against one of Brisbane, Storm or Roosters plus wins against Nth Qld and Parramatta should put us into finals contention. Two upsets and we could place higher.

I wouldn't go that far but Hampstead did make some errors just like every other ref this week.

Yeah, not going to the video on the Withers try was a turning point but if we hadn't &^$$#@%^# dropped the ball 20m out four tackles earlier it wouldn't have got to that stage

Does anyone else think not taking the first 2 points a few minutes into the game was dumb? I think that was the play where McGoldrick drops it with the line open.

Stevens-can hold his head high

Beattie- had his best game for a long time, welcome back

Nutely- out of sorts IMO, letting riddel steamrole him to score the winner was not good enough, seemed to lack punch

Hilder- a little quieter than usual but still topped the tackle count

Isemonger- we could do with 17 of this bloke, plays for the jumper and hit hard all day

bickerstaff- carried an injury and didnt have alot of impact, but ran well at times

Bailey- highly involved making alot of hit ups, but still fails to break the line, great offloads at times and had a far dinkum dig, can;t fault that effort IMO

Kent- Not bad, pretty solid and in defence really aimed up

Gallen- OUr best on park, took them on single handed and rips and tears like no other in our pack , and he is wearing number 6 !

Mcgoldy- bloody good game, fixed up his defence from the last few weeks and had a go

Rieck- Solid

Vagana- Obviously does not give a shit about the outcome of matches for his new club, failed to kick chase, failed to turn and chase when grubbers put on behind him, got caught out in defence often and failed to get into the middle and try and catch out tired forwards in attack.

Merrit- Going backwards every week.

Simmons- good player, has a go, has enourmous ability, looked scared out there at times today and hesitent when he could have been making breaks, made half breaks then looked unsure, obviously still learning

Lomu- One of his better matches for us

Sullivan- tried his guts our, made yards at dummy half, created, yeah, spilled too many but due to trying to hard, awesome.

aitken- not worthg mentioning, shouldnt have been there.

An upset, Garbs? The last couple of performances have been good apart from the dropsy but not surely not good enough to trouble either brisbane or the rorters. Perhaps the reappearance of BK will make the difference. Lets hope so. Is he definitely playing next week?

Mate he was a disgrace. If we had of got 50% of the tough calls we win the game. End of story.

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was bad too, I just don't think Robinson is any better.

Take Withers try out of the game and a Sharks player tackled without the ball just after Zues's try

and not a f**king word about it from the commentators! I thought it was blatant, a real half chance of a break but for that and then nothing said or replayed!!

I just don't think we have been on the end of too many good calls this year

but in saying that....we lost it ourselves....and I don't believe thats it for 2004

with kimmorley back and based on what we have shown without him.....let us make the 8 and see what happens...a lot of the top 4 teams weren't terribly impressive this weekend....

bring on the broncos!
