I agree with the original post. If we weren't going to use Aitken, he shouldn't have been there. Having said that, we should have used him. Our kicking game was shit all day. Kent had by far his worst game at halfback. Our last tackle options were poor, the kicks placed no pressure on Saints.

Being 8 and then 2 behind on the scoreboard, then what better time to bring Aitken on. He's pretty good at slicing over close to the line Scott Hill style, so I don't know why he wasn't brought on just before McGoldy scored, when we were pressing their line. If we were leading by 10 then I would understand, not wanting to risk a young half, but the kid is a natural try scorer so why wouldn't you throw him out there.

By the way Canberra have been doing a similar thing with young Carney.

We have to be able to win without him though. Sure he makes a difference but we should have won today. Our handling was the problem, not the absence of Noddy.

I love the Sharks, but I think its time to bite the bullit and admit we are never going to win a comp with our current crop of players...

General I hate to disagree but I think we have a great set of forwards and our key backs have been out for more than a month. There's a good platform though for next year (although I wish I had $1 for every year I've said THAT as a sharks fan :-()

Now, if only Stuey could teach them to catch.

Spot on McSharkie - lets hope for as much passion from the forwards next time Noddy's playing. And then we get some real 6th tackle options too...

(Although to be fair I'm sure Stuey had plenty of 6th tackle moves rehearsed, but as far as I can tell we didnt actually get that far... 16/34 completions according to nrl.com)

Ditto. Aitken would've have been a big asset over the final 30 minutes today. Our only natural half in the squad.

the thing is, I remember someone started a thread about tactical errors before but we won the game.
It also involved the very strange use of subs where there were 4 interchanges left make in the last 5 minutes.

I thought Vagana played alright today, could have had a double if merritt passed a fraction earlier

We are seriously missing Kimmorly though, there is just no organisation and the last tackle options are shit !

i dont even know where to start with the Aitken situation

i keep writing a sentence but then realise it all gets edited out

if aitken is named on the bench again, i'll be personally visiting S.Raper and telling him that he has no idea about the effective use of the interchange bench

The only thing I went away from that game saying was 'My f*cking goodness Simmons is a sh*t fullback!. Bah!'.

Bring back Peachey, drop Merrit, and push Simmons to the wing. NOW!

Simmons will never be fullback.
They have to realise that now & stop wasting development time.
If peache was there yesterday to help Nutts & pre-empt the play, 2 maybe even 3 of those tries dont happen.
Simmo folds like a wet card on the line.

Changes for Broncs game:

3 forwards plus Mick O'Sullivan on the bench.

Bird back at 5/8, Gallen to 2nd row, Peachey at fullback, Merritt to Premier League. Kimmorley if fit to replace Kent to wing, Simmons to Premier league.

gday nuffs, i rate nutley as a hard toiler but i can see his limitations which others i reckon overlook.

he got steam rollered by riddell and its not the first time...but that happens.

he gives lots of dumb penalties ( refer to the old shire nark post originally headed f**k off nutley you hack....but then amended) and makes the regular shit play the ball or drops it when at dummy half.

he has his worth but i wouldnt put him in the top 15 props going around by any stretch.

and.............he would be the WORST choice for captain i can remember!

but people here keep talking him up , thats the beauty of a forum!

the passion he has for the club surely gave him a massive start in the captaincy race

how many captains jump around giving high fives when someone forces a knock-on? not many

he seems like he tries to lift the players as much as he tries to lift himself

i think he is up there with Fitzy, Hindmarsh etc in the hard-toil stakes. he gives up a fair bit of size which could obviously go against him

his penalties have dropped considerably since given the captaincy. the same with Beattie last year or year before

and yes, he does come up with some bad errors + penalties which let us down

but who in PL is good enough to replace him?
