What do you guys think????

I disappointed that he has gone to the Roosters.......especially after all the stuff Manly did to try and get him back from o/s. The manly supporters are gutted as the Eagle Rockers knew him on a personal level.

Just a question of dollars and cents,I suppose. And the Roosters would have had plenty to spare under the cap. After all,it,s not as if they have any expensive players on their roster.

you can't blame the big guy for chasing the money - Manly were only offering an incentive contract and he does have his wife and daughter to think about

What I want to know is what on earth easts are planning on doing with him...they hardly need him and I would hate to see him rotting out the year in first division

All i can say is that Easts must have some clever accountants. Thats not necessarily a knock on the club, im just applauding the ability of Easts to fit so many good players under the cap:

Brad Fittler
Anthony Minichello
Ryan Cross
Luke Phillips
Justin Hodges
Shannon Hegarty
Todd Byrne
Chris Flannery
Brett Finch
Craig Wing
Luke Ricketson
Adrian Morley
Craig Fitzgibbon
Jason Cayless
Peter Cusack
Mal Kaufusi
Willie Bishop

Ummm...need i go on?

Well done Mr Easts accountant ;)

Cheers,
Moffo

I was hoping that it wouldn't turn into a Salary cap discussion, just about Mal.

Moffy, your team can't talk....you are allowed to keep your cheating Dogs team & buy Ryan....

Mal is going for the money, he probably comes from quite a poor family background and for that i can't blame him

Rg- We already have 50 discussions about the dogs and the salary cap. In this case, im talking about the Roosters.

The dogs roster is not comparable to the roosters roster. If the game were played on paper, roosters would beat the dogs 50-0 every week.

When i look at the roosters side vs the tigers side (on paper anyway), i just shake my head. To think that they are both under the same cap numbers - it just seems amazing

Moffo - you would probably find Mal is signed under a premier league contract. The PL salary cap is only 250 000 and so in theory is much stricter however I am convinced that its where 90% of salary cap cheating goes on.

I don't want to have a salary cap discussion......but a MAL one is what I was hoping for.

Apparently one of Manly,s sponsors flew to Fiji to assist in arranging Mal,s return to Australia.
If this is so,then his bloodsucking agent morally owed Manly last refusal.
Still.this particular agent would not be all that familiar with morals.

Why are you trying to downgrade the value of Canterbury,s playing roster?(as if I didn,t know)
The Dogs have Internationals in Mason,Anasta,Vagana,Talau and SOO reps in O,Meley,Norton and Price. Not to mention El Masri who should make SOO this year.
Do the Roosters have a bigger rep list than this?

Brook, aren't most of the PL contracts p/t ones? The top 25 are full time players, but i always thought, that given the small cap, most of the players in the PL contracts are part timers. It makes sense though, re-directing players to PL contracts to free up money in their 3.25m cap

Its a bit of a rort really. I wonder how well Mattiske and friends monitor the PL cap

Mason and Anasta = 1-2 tests at most

Norton hasn't played SOO for ages and i don't think Price has either

So that leaves O'Meley, Vagana and Talau. And El Masri is yet to play for the blues yet.

Roosters players with rep experience: Fittler, Minichello, Hegarty, Hodges, Ricketson, Fitzgibbon, Morley, J.Cayless, Wing, Phillips and Cross

Im not down playing our side. Im highlighting the fact that we play well as a team without a 'great' side. Would you say that we have a great set of players? If you compared easts and the dogs on paper, which side would you think would be more likely to have breached the cap? Come on, lets be honest here

Cheers,
Moffo

Already considered that question at length,Moffo.
Take out Fittler who may be the games most highly paid player ,and the rest of the Roosters line -up would be well under the Dogs-who don,t forgrt are still paying two reserve graders in the Hughes boys,$340k between them.
The short answer? Both of them.

fittler ricko and morley are the only ones in the "rooster reps" that are genuine rep players(played more than 1 or 2 rep games)

wing and fitzgibbon have played one test, minnochello has represented city, hodges player one soo game, cayless i'm not sure of,i doubt phillips has had any rep experience and hegarty hasnt played origin yet

moffo most PL players are on part-time contracts yes, with an average of $10k a year per player it is to be expected.

I'm not really saying that players divert regular first graders to PL contracts - that would be a bit hard to sneak through it is more in the suprising number of fringe first graders some clubs manage to turn out every week - quality players that while they may not be at the top level yet are not far below it and could command a lot more at other clubs - Parramatta have been very good at this in previous years.

I would think that easts have been trying to actually cut back on this though because I know every single one of balmains/wests tigers signings from easts this year (3 or 4 solid fringe players) are being paid virtually nothing by us with the bulk of their contracts still covered by the roosters.

Brook if what you are saying is correct, then it makes Easts arithmetic even more remarkable as ongoing payments to released players still count under the cap as they found out with Wing last season.

Thats the case in first grade but is it the same for the premier league clubs?

Its a comp with a much smaller cap and a much higher player turnover....its possible the rules for that sort of thing are more lax.

on the other hand you could be right - this is the club paying one of its flegg players $80 000 000 a season, all I know was sheens sounded pretty gleeful while announcing how little we were paying for some of our players
