I think the Roosters also had to pay out Green which also would've counted to their cap.

What's the bloody point of the cap? It aint working.

Well, i stand corrected

Although i thought that Cross and Phillips have played at least country/city at some point

And Hegarty being with a train on squad for QLD

Still, fair enough.

Cheers,

One of the top AFL coaches (can,t remember who)said about 5 years ago that AFL had two kinds of clubs -those who stuck to the salary cap and those who made the finals.League is in the same boat.
I just wish Parra would learn how to rort the bloody thing like Easts and Canterbury are doing.

LOL.. I've got to hand to you Moffo. More a few timesyou've been told (or instructed?) by otherberrie supporters to ignore anti-Bulldogs posts. But you keep hanging in there with creative justification to the bulldogs scandal.

But it is a good one thistime because the post is about Mal Kafusi...LOL. No one can accuse Rg of starting an anti-Canterbury thread. ;)

Well done Moffo... a real trooper. :)

Well, there is an upside. Parramatta and Saints supporters have something in common... both our teams are playng like shit in the S-bend. By being honest, at least we have an excuse. ;)

It wasn't that long ago Ricky Stuart was on the news saying the cap needed to go up as he had players there on just $10k or someting. It gave me the impression they couldn't afford to pay these guys more because of the cap but now they somehow managed to fit Mal in.

If they could fit Mal in how could they only pay certain players $10k before?

Surely they must be asking where the extra dollars came from?

I have to agree that the cap needs to go up. $3.25mil simply isnt enough.
I understand moves are afoot that it will go up but more than that, I think there should be concession for juniors and long service players.

It only gets complicated because we have to accomodate Melbourne who would die a sudden death is they had to compete with a progressive salary cap. But I'm sure even this can be worked out with certain exemptions being put in place under a 'game expansion' clause of some sort.

I am still getting used to the culture of rugby league players, I guess, and believe me its hard....but boy do I wish that loyalty factor would become a bigger part of their lives.....it would certainly make fans more loyal to their clubs indirectly as well.

However, Willow, glad to see you have made allowances in your above post re Melbourne Storm..thanks...because people who run this game need to understand the same.

I was listening to Roger Merrett on the ABC last night and he was discussing the early days of the Brisbane Beara and how difficult it was and how low the crowds were for years and years but the afl never gave up on them, and poured millions into junior development andpromotion and media exposure into them and Sydney and that's why the afl code has prospered in Brisbane and will do in Sydney shortly. He did worry originally about their survival but was always assured by the afl, they will stick with their 2 frontier teams, i.e. Brisbane and Sydney.

There are players who are still loyal in RL. Sounds like you've been hanging around those AFL folk too much. RL is a professional sport and big money. Players are bought and sold in AFL as well and the draft system has institutionalised disloyalty.
The truth is though, why should a player remain loyal to a club that treats him like a commodity to be bought and sold?
But neither sport has anything on US Baseball or American Football when it comes to players becoming a commodity.
So what do you mean by the culture of RL players?
"However, Willow, glad to see you have made allowances in your above post re Melbourne...people who run this game need to understand the same. "
The NRL does makes allowances... how do think Melbourne got a team in the first place?
I still think Ribot is a blood-sucking scumbag. I've no problem with Melbourne having a RL team... never have. But I don't think it should have been at the expense of a Gold Coast which has loyal RL supporter and junior base.
