Interview Mal had today with the ABC Grandstand team.

Inspiring words on the state of the international game from the Australian coach. Other highlights include:

- Players need a year off every cycle from Test matches.
- Australia A/PM'sXIII or a 9's Tournament could take place in 'off' years.
- Media need to get on board and help promote International game
- All the Pacific Nations need to "speak the same language".
- How good it would be if Milford played for Samoa.

Some people like Mal just confuse me, one minute he's not supporting International footy, the next he is.

I support his comments but i don't know if he truely supports international RL

He supports IRL now. Because he's being paid to. And even then it only extends to falling in line with the lip service paid by the NRL.

He speaks as if he has no idea of the RLIF. There are plans in place to set how the international cycles will play out, to my knowledge there aren't any 'off' years.

But the comments re Milford are incredible. Didn't Mal encourage him and many others to elect for QLD?

Also, should there be some concern the Kangaroos don't have a sponsor? Hilariously, I've just discovered that the Kangaroos don't have a website, but a direction to NRL.com which then has no info on them.

It's almost as if the nrl doesn't give a f**k about the roos or irl. But that can't be right because successive CEOs and john grant have all said irl is important. They said it!

Whatever Mal says I think in general the tide is turning and the mainstream journalism (mostly Buzz rothfield excluded) want to see International Rugby League succeed.. This is good :)

I would guess Mal is advocating the separations of "Nation and State"...

If a kid is elegable for Origin, let him compete, and if he is elegable for a Pacific nation, let him play for then as well. It's not like they will ever overlap.

Honestly it would just be acknowledging that some people have families histories more complicated that "I'm nationality X". Is dual citizenship so hard a concer to grasp??

Is picking a country and sticking to it so f**king hard? Apparently it is.

And as we've seen there are players who are NOT eligible for origin who still want to reject their own country and swap, so to frame this as an origin issue is stupid. It's the international rules that are causing this so stop pretending otherwise.

No it's not hard it's the fact the game is trying not to compromise origin which influences the choice of nation.

Personally I'm not fussed by it.

Would love nothing more than the Kangaroos jersey to be clean.

Time for me to get myself a new Australian jersey while there are no sponsors on it! The last one I got was several years ago now, is the older heavy material, and has 'PLAYSTATION' written all over it.

Now, if only NSW can lose VB as sponsor, briefly, before another one comes on board and looks hideous, that'd be great too. Except, inconveniently, for the fact the 2016 NSW jersey is one of their poorer efforts regardless of sponsorship...

An extra incentive for me to get a new Australian jersey: The subtle kangaroo and southern cross on the back of the 2016 jersey. I like it!

I just had a look at the NRL.com online shop, and noticed it.

Click the link, then choose to look at the back of the jersey. Hover your mouse over the lower back and you'll see it in the box. Very subtle, but a nice touch.

That's a good looking jersey, just needs the steeper V

In an ideal world, those in charge will notice a sudden spike in sales of Australian Kangaroos jerseys, realise it's because it's sponsorless, and any future sponsorships will be contained to being addition to the Kangaroos logo on the right-chest and perhaps sleeve sponsorship.

And hopefully that same person is also in charge of Origin jerseys and will stop plastering ugly sponsors logos all over representative jerseys.

I live in delusional hope!!
