Pacific pitch: new bid's grand plans for NRL expansion

A bid team based out of Auckland have told the NRL they want to play games in Tonga, Samoa and Cook Islands each year, representing the people of the Pacific.

Do the people of these island countries share enough of an identity for this to work? How have their populations taken to the Super Rugby team trying this? I don't know and the people in the article saying it will are obviously pushing an agenda.

Concept hasn't worked too well in super rugby. I prefer team in Christchurch.
