Manchester Utd v Liverpool

The derby match is on Monday (Australian time).

Tim Howard is expected to be having a long time on the bench as punishment for some blunders of late and to be replaced by Roy Carroll. Rio Ferdinand is also expected to play after coming back from suspension (how they have missed him) with Mikael Silvestre to either be on the bench or dropped all together.

Man U have been in poor form so far, but the rivalry of this match could be the turning point for them and Liverpool haven't completely convinced me this season so far, however, they have made some good signings in Cissé and Xabi Alonso.

Man U 1-0.

C'mon the Red Devils!

Giggs and Scholes have been very poor so far this season. Hopefully this match will give them the kick up the arse that they need. Ruud has gotten a few matches under his belt so should be his usual predatory self. And with the return of Rio, hopefully our backline will start gelling again.

We can only hope. I'd also think about dropping Scholes, bring in Smith to partner Ruud and use Phil Neville to partner Keano in the middle to shut down Gerrard. Scholes simply hasn't been playing very well lately.

And in anticipation of Rio's return, I thought I'd update my sig.

There are rumours that he'll be ready, but personally I doubt it. I think it'll be another week or so until we see him.

But I'll be quite happy if proven wrong.

Cant F'n Wait.

These scouse hacks need to be put in their place.

---------------Carroll------------

Spector ----Rio----Wes----Heinze

Ronaldo ---Keane--Scholes--Giggs

-------------Ruud----Smith--------

Then Rooney to come on in the 70th minute and score our 7th goal.

I hate liverpool and everything to do with the club. Wish Gary Nev was playing :(

United 8 - 0 Liverpooh.

Howard and Silvestre are utter sh1t, so is Wes Brown.

Both Howard and Silvestre were the best player in their position in the EPL for the first half of last season. Just because both are terribly out of form (partly because everybody else in the defence keeps getting injured so they can never get an understanding with anyone) doesn't make them crap.

Silvestre is a very good central defender when he is partnered by a leader. The combination he had with Rio was absolutely outstanding up until Rio's suspension. That's why I expect his performances to improve hugely now that Rio is back (if he can win the battle with Brown and possibly Heinze to be his partner). However, in saying that, I'm not blind to his faults. The problem is when Silvestre is relied on to be the more dominent of the back two, he simply doesn't have the composure and the pressure gets to him, resulting in stupid mistakes. That's why I personally think Heinze should be Rio's partner in the middle and Silvestre move back to left fullback. It's not healthy to have a player in such an important position who, despite being so good when with a solid partner, can fall apart if he has to step up.

This is the team I reckon we'll play with against Liverpool:

-----------------Carroll--------------

--Phil-----Wes------Rio----Heinze--

-Ronaldo---Fletcher--Keane--Giggs-

-------------Ruud----Scholes--------

But I personally would prefer:

------------------Carroll--------------

---Wes-----Rio-----Heinze--Spector-

-Ronaldo----Phil----Keane---Giggs-

-------------Ruud-----Smith--------

Say's alot about the quality of the EPL really. ;-)

I know that, but they are both average players. Silvestre proved at EURO that he is a poor defender and Howard was a flash in the pan IMO.

Good defenders don't need someone great next to them to perform. IMO this makes Silvestre half a player - he needs someone to cover up his weaknesses.

They're asking for trouble having a night time kick off for this...

In my years living in the UK, this was always an 11am kick-off...

I tend to agree that a night KO is flirting with danger but the two sides don't really have recognised Firms these days...
