He's already won titles, now he gets to cash in and earn mega-bucks and by the time his contract runs out he'll still only be 30.

He's done the right thing, maybe could've done it a better way but short term butthurt from his former club is a small price to pay, im sure it won't keep him awake at night.

he also has a chance to be an icon up at the coast and can create a bit of history up at the coast if he can steer the Titans to a finals run. A different challenge for him.

Manly's entire culture has been built on poaching other team's players

Watmough, Stewart, Matai, Stewart, King, Ballin, Foran, Matai, DCE.

A total of 0 were poached. A few out of area before playing Manly lower grades, but none were wanted by their previous club/area.

LoL, better off without arguably the best halfback in the game who still has 8 or so years left in the game?

ok.

Yeah you're going to be better off with that 18 year old whothef**kisthatguy stumbling and f**king up next year.

much better off.

Not referring to his playing ability Einstein.

He has been a destabilising presence for a long time.

Better to have a team all pushing in the same direction.

Wow, Buzz went even more full genius than he usually does. Stealing? Signing a player who is coming off contract is stealing? What a moron. I suspect Phil would rather the Titans just sign all the nice players the other clubs don't want...that'll ensure success and sustainability.

If Manly manage to keep Foran now (which I don't think they will) it'll be a massive success. DCE is a vastly overrated player. The Shane Watson of the NRL - built a reputation on bullying lesser sides with the odd decent performance against heavyweights. Queensland certainly suffered for his participation.

And if he wants to go to the Titans for the cash, good luck to him. But enjoy having September off every year and not coming within a million miles of a premiership - a truly competitive player would go elsewhere for a bit less to win titles.

This is infact the dumbest possible statement to make in this situation....

Do you really think a player is challenging himself by finding an already successful team to slot into instead of finding a "down and out" team to singlehandedly carry to a premiership????

DCE has already been part of a successful ensemble, isnt it the obvious next step to go somewhere not guaranteeing success and prove himself a great player in his own right....

Do you really think anyone with a thimble of league knowledge thinks the Titans are going to challenge for a premiership in the years while DCE still walks upright? They're a rabble of a club.

Do you really think he's going there for the challenge? He could've gone to the Sharks for the challenge. There's a side who are a decent half away from being a contender (potentially). The Titans are about 17 players, a new culture and a completely new broom away.

Here's how it plays out in the Gold Coast - he misses the eight every year he's there, loses his Origin squad spot (possibly not this year but over time) then becomes a lot less interesting financially at his next contract negotiation. That's how I see it anyway.

^ Here's hoping you're correct :)

I actually don't hope I'm correct..it's just how I see it. I don't dislike DCE, I just don't rate him that highly and it's not a career decision I believe players with higher standing in the game would make.

It will be interesting to see how he goes. He has had utter class play around him his entire career and now he gets to try and build a legacy for himself, developing his own supporting crew instead of being plugged into one.

I think Parra will get the better deal with Foz personally.

Thats what was being said about the Cowboys in 2010. Granted the Titans dont have JT, but I dont think DCE is as bad as you think.

I dont think Neil Henrys a fantastic coach, but hes taken a rabble of a team from nothing to the 8 before. The Cowboys were just as bad on the field (if not worse) in 2008-2010 as the Titans have been the last few years. The culture was rock bottom. Henry and co. took a broom to the club in 2010. In 2011, they had a whole bunch of new faces, a new attitude and have made the finals ever since. The Titans have financial security now and a lot of players off contract this season. If they make smart recruitments (like NQ in 2010-2011), theres no reason why Henry cant make them competitive with DCE.

You could well be right, and it's a good, reasoned post. It's only my opinion that DCE is overrated, and when he doesn't have the cattle around him he'll be found out. If I'm wrong, happy to be - the Titans aren't a team I wish ill on. Henry is a great coach and if they can get the right guys up there (ie experienced guys who buy into wanting to win and create a culture, not just line their pockets) then yeah they'll be ok.

Henry sure has a job on his hands. A club that's made the finals twice in their eight-year history and won a solitary finals match, with hardly the most loyal fan base in the world. If he gets results in DCE's contract period, he's better than even you and I think.

It's arguable that DCE is better than Thurston or Cronk?

He's not even close to Pearce or Reynolds atm who have been miles ahead of him post-Origin last year. And then you have Johnson.

DCE would be the 6th best halfback in the game atm.

In the last few months, yes.

But in general I'd say DCE is the 3rd best halfback behind Thurston and Cronk. Johnson, Reynolds and Pearce are at about the same level atm.

I don't know why everybody is writing the Titans off forever. They prob won't do much this year but dollar cherry evans will attract some players, Henry can coach, and the GC is a great place to live. They have an awesome stadium and facilities .... I'm sure a lot of players would like to go there. Shake up the roster a bit and they can be a threat. I really hope they go well because the GC deserves representation. We just have to convince all the the f**kwits up there to get behind the team.

I agree on recent form he is down the pecking order, but he could turn that around in 2 or 3 weeks and be back in the argument for best HB in the game. He doesnt even need to be at his absolute best to be in that convo, DCE at 80-90% is still better than every HB but Thurston and Cronk. Pearce and Reynolds are playing the best they ever have and neither would be considered higher 3rd by most.

Well they currently have the 2nd longest streak of missing the finals. 4 seasons in a row. They have only made the finals twice since coming into the comp. 6 years in a row of decline in crowds. They have done a lot more wrong than right.
