Manly: strange tales from the wilds.

Ken Arthuson can't understand why Manly hasn't bought a new team and he blames Sharp (who I believe is a piss poor coach, so here I agree with him).

But Arthurson sounded unconvinced, adding: "I always said that they were going to be in for a tough year because I'm not sure that their recruitment was as good as it could have been. "To me, they looked like a team that didn't have any fundamental pattern of play." In reply the Manly chairman: Vautin said he appreciated Arthurson's passion. "It was one of the worst performances from a Manly team I've ever seen, too," he said. "I've just spoken to the players. We spoke about a lot of things and it wasn't all one-sided. "They accept that it was their fault. They know they can play a lot better and they think they are going to turn it around this week. "They just had a bad day mentally. They just weren't up to the task. Those days happen." They had got a hiding the week before but were saved by the referee. This time they folded because the referee had thrown out his Manly Hymn book. Perhaps Manly could be relocated ..................... hehehehehe .... nah, who would want them? http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/04/07/1049567627215.html

WESTS TIGERS Coach Tim Sheens was so disappointed with the joint-venture side's performance against Manly at Brookvale on Sunday that he banned players from singing the club's victory song. (smh) - and it was a thrashing.... Perhaps Manly could form a joint venture with Souths? </BOD>

As a Wests supporter, I'm happy to say that the year 2003 has been an outstanding success.

Beat Saints.

Flogged Manly with a brand of Football for the last 40 minutes that would have looked awful in group 6 reserve grade.

Top year. :)

Tim sheens should have been praising the boys for their commitment to dismantling the unholy menace that is Manly. For the first time in my entire life I can say with pride, with passion,.... I feel sorry for Manly.

The creaking, backward style of coach Sharp reminds me very much of earlier times. The last game of last year vs Penrith to be precise.

Manly seriously suck and all as it should be. Brown, Dorahy, Boyd........... Revenge is a meal best served cold, 25 years later.

ps.. Buddah, great decision mate. You'll probably be at South or the Cowboys next year and retired at the end of it. You know the drill.

Good call EA. I think the Tigers are in for a better year than most people expect. They should be able to account for Souths this week and with three wins from five starts, it's certainly something to build on. The return of Pearson and Hill made a big difference from the week before and Sheens has their feet planted firmly on the ground.

Manly on the other hand stink more than Souths but I hope they can spring one good performance this year and use it this weekend.;)

As for Sharp, he layed the boot into Matthew Elliott late last year and said he was a nothing coach. I wonder if he still thinks the same way?

What should really worry Manly is the performance of their lower grades, going down 66-12 to Balmain first division and 40-10 to Balmain Flegg

No matter who the coach (and lets hope they pick someone credible once sharp gets the sack) they are going to have very little to draw on

I'll say one thing - the good work that Sheens has already done with the club will continue to benefit long after he's gone.

While our last coach just wanted to complain about how noone could make the team a success with two first division teams Sheens has completely overhauled our coaching structure to find a way to MAKE it work.

All coaches in the wests magpies and balmain tigers now report to Sheens and he has ensured we use similar methods throughout the club so it is an easy transition up the grades, all levels from sg ball up are also doing at least one training session a week at homebush under sheens' eye and cherry mescia is working with both balmain and the magpies and reporting to sheens - providing a link from premier league and flegg of both clubs to the first grade team.

In addition the man himself actually attends the lower grade games - especially the Flegg, something our previous coaches just simply didn't do. A comment I recieved from one of our Balmain first division boys - a member of the wests tigers full-time squad who trains with first grade and has played several games - was 'Sheens spoke more words together in our first training session than Lamb did in the last two years'

I do think the wests tigers are a chance to make the 8 - the first time I've really believed this at the start of the year, but I think Sheens' contribution is going to be much deeper than that, he seems to regard himself as in for the long haul and he's working on building a club rather than chasing after the quick fix solutions favoured by everyone else that has been involved in the club.

Honestly I cannot speak highly enough of what I have seen taking place in the club since he joined, if management supports him and gives him his head I think we will see a massive change in the culture of the club over the next couple of years.

The Eagles were getting a hiding from the Warriors until the ref decided to even things up. It almost given the home side a victory but just failed. It did however give the fools a false sense of their worth as a football side.

In the first quarter of that game the score was 3 tries to nil (14-0) and looking like it would just continue piling up points, but the ref changed things.
